U18s: Palace 1 United 2 - ManUtd.com

20/04/2013 11:48, Report by Adam Marshall Birmingham United's Under-18s collected an important success at Crystal Palace with Nicholas Ioannou and Ben Pearson on the scoresheet. Both parties found penalties stored as Paul McGuinness' children tinted an interesting experience and, after the shock 3-0 midweek defeat to Everton, it had been important that the visitors got back on track contrary to the bottom group. Each time a well-worked place helped Ioannou to change a header with only seven minutes gone the Reds made the perfect start. Palace were fortunate to not drop further behind when Tom King saved a Sam Byrne shot and the jump deflected off Kiran Khindra John and trimmed the wood. Byrne then had a goal ruled out for offside and the hosts emerged as an attacking force themselves. Reise Allassani fired wide from a Javen Palmer move but hit the target with his next chance to level the results. Allassani robbed Paddy McNair and slotted past Pierluigi Gollini with the assistance of a small deflection. Palmer had a couple of attempts either side of a wonderful opportunity that has been spurned by James Wilson but United completed the half on top. King made a good end to deny Wilson from a tight position and the quick striker entered well only for Byrne to get his finish all wrong from an unmarked position. The chances held coming thick and fast following the system with Byrne blazing over a volley when a purpose seemed certain and making a end out of King. There was drama in the 55th minute when a penalty was severely given against Luke Croll when the ball bounced against his arm. Wilson's place kick was beautifully preserved by King to keep the report at 1-1. The Eagles then went close with Jon Williams refused by Gollini and Ioannou making a critical stop on
