Former Rutgers AD Pernetti getting $1.2M, iPad

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) a Former Rutgers Athletic Director Tim Pernetti gets $1.2 million in income, plus an, car allowance and significantly more than 2 yrs of medical health insurance coverage under a settlement agreement. The Associated Press received details of the arrangement Monday through an open records request with Rutgers. Some details had been previously reported by the Star-Ledger. Pernetti resigned last week after a movie was made public featuring former men's basketball coach Mike Rice shoving participants and berating them with anti-gay slurs. Pernetti suspended Rice last December. The coach was shot the other day. Under his agreement, Pernetti is to be paid his base wage of $453,000 per year through June 2014 and a one-time cost of $679,500 within the next month. He gets the money even if he takes still another job. He also gets his $12,000 per year car money through June 2014 and health insurance and pension payments through October 2015. Pernetti also gets to hold his Rutgers-issued iPad and laptop. Rutgers agreed to represent Pernetti in virtually any lawsuits related to his task as athletic director. The college agreed not to state something bad about Pernetti to the press or prospective employers, and Pernetti agreed not to disparage the college publicly, although he is permitted to speak honestly about the Rice condition. He also agreed to work in just about any investigations by the college, NCAA or legal experts. Grain was fired a week ago not for cause, and therefore under his contract he is in line to be paid just over $1million, or 75 per cent of his remaining salary, along with a $100,000 bonus for staying on the job through the 2012-13 year.
