Warning: If You Have A Hot Roommate, Gronk Might Show Up One Morning In His Boxers And Eat Your Cookies

If you want a lesson in not giving a fuck, look no further than Patriots tight end and Bro King Rob Gronkowski, who is almost exclusively interested in partying when he isn't footballing. Gronk does everything for the chicks, so is it any surprise that a Gronk visit to the Kansas State campus ended in him at some lady's house, eating her cookies in his underwear? Hellllllll naw.

As always, Busted Coverage alerted us to this breaking news, which came via a K-State student who claims to have a hot roommate:

How Atlanta Hawks' 2013 Postseason Run Influences Josh Smith's Future

As is the case with many players on Danny Ferry's revamped Atlanta Hawks squad, Josh Smith's future with the team is not guaranteed when the 2013 postseason run comes to its inevitable conclusion.

And barring a miracle run through the Eastern Conference playoffs, it will indeed draw to an untimely close. Even if the Hawks somehow get by the Indiana Pacers in the opening round, it's tough to envision this overmatched squad making it through the rest of the postseason gauntlet.

That gives Smith a limited slate of games to prove his value. Given Indiana's Game 1 shellacking of the Hawks, it appears rather likely that Smoove will finish with between four and seven outings in his 2013 postseason resume.

If his sprained right ankle hinders him in any way, that already closing window grows a bit closer to being slammed shut.

Regardless of what he does during the rest of the Hawks' postseason run, Smoove is probably going to be a max-contract player. After max deals were handed out to Eric Gordon and Roy Hibbert during the 2012 offseason, it almost seems like a foregone conclusion.

Smith may be frustrating, but he's an uber-talented forward with a coveted set of skills: His athleticism is off the charts, he can run the floor far more effectively than most bigs and his defense is rather formidable when he commits himself on that end of the court.

The Oak Hill product's body and talents are conducive to earning heaps of money, even if the space between his ears often seems to hold him back.

Smith is already a rich man, thanks to the checks he's already cashed with the Hawks, but he's going to rake in the dollars even more during the upcoming offseason. Given the relative dearth of marquee 4s who will be free to pick and choose their next location come summer time, Smith is a near lock for a max contract.

More relevant than his future salary, though, is whether or not he spends the next portion of his career playing home games in Philips Arena.

Smith, who perennially finds himself on the list of All-Star snubs, has seemed to be present in trade rumors for years now. This past deadline was no different, but rumored deals involving plenty of different players, including, but not limited to, Monta Ellis, Kawhi Leonard and Evan Turner, simply never came to fruition.

However, now that Smith's free agency is looming in the not-so-distant horizon, the rumors haven't just withered away into nothingness. Instead, they've persisted throughout the second half of the 2012-13 campaign.

Mere hours after the trade dudline—sorry, corny but true—came and passed, USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt reported that it was "highly unlikely" Smith would re-sign with Atlanta. Of course, he received that information from an anonymous source, so take it for what it's worth.

"In free agency news, word is the Hawks' first priority will be to keep unrestricted free agents Josh Smith and Kyle Korver during the off-season. If it proves too costly, the Hawks will shop one (or both) in a sign-and-trade."

Atlanta will always mean a lot to Smith. He grew up in the city, does charity work there and truly seems to feel at home within the friendly confines of I-285. His hometown will certainly have an impact on his decision, but ultimately, free-agency deals are business transactions.

As soon as Danny Ferry settled into what I assume must be a comfy chair in his office, the first thing he did was start converting the Atlanta Hawks into Al Horford and Team Expiring Contract (h/t Grantland's Zach Lowe).

Within an extremely short time frame, Ferry dealt Joe Johnson and his unspeakable yearly salary to the Brooklyn Nets for a bevy of role players and...wait for it...expiring contracts. Then he did the same with Marvin Williams and the Utah Jazz.

In no time at all, the general manager had masterfully freed up tons of cap space for his first full offseason in charge of the team.

Now, the Hawks have so few players signed for the 2013-14 season that you can literally count them on one hand: Al Horford, Lou Williams, DeShawn Stevenson, Mike Scott and John Jenkins. Seriously. That's it.

Josh Smith, Devin Harris, Zaza Pachulia, Kyle Korver, Johan Petro, Dahntay Jones, Anthony Tolliver and Shelvin Mack are all unrestricted free agents. Ivan Johnson and Jeff Teague join them in the free-agency pool, but they're both of the restricted variety.

A lot will depend on the direction Ferry wants to go, but the general buzz around Atlanta is that the fanbase would like to build around the Teague-Horford duo. That would require signing the Wake Forest product to a much more exorbitant contract than his current one, though, and re-signing both Teague and Smith might be out of the financially responsible realm of possibilities.

Of course, there are the exceptions, those who would rather corral a few more years of Smith's athleticism, but the majority of Atlanta fans I've talked to seem to prefer the point guard to the forward. You can include me in Camp Teague as well.

Then again, this could all change with a few legendary postseason performances. Or even solid ones, for that matter.

The biggest knock on Smoove has always been his penchant for the long two-pointers. Somehow, someway, the forward who excels around the basket has convinced himself that he's best served hoisting up shots from the perimeter.

If you go to a Hawks game at the Highlight Factory, you'll hear a series of crowd noises whenever he lets fly from outside of the paint.

First, you hear a disappointed murmur as he rises up into the air. Then you hear a groan. There might be a cheer if he rips the ball through the net, but there will still be groans mixed in, because a make means that he's probably going to keep firing away instead of planting his backside closer to the basket.

Do you see how the only green section is right around the rim? How about the ridiculously low percentages around the perimeter coupled with the high number of attempts?

That's a textbook example of not always playing to your strengths, and I apologize for forcing such an ugly image into your consciousness. Trust me, I wish I could un-see it too.

He must prove to both Hawks fans and Ferry that he can take over a game in the most beneficial way possible. If Smith starts attacking the rim with relentless fury, makes plays instead of shot attempts when he receives the ball out near the three-point arc and gives Atlanta a better shot at beating the Pacers, he'll prove his value.

Admittedly, the sample size will be small, but any step in the right direction during the most crucial stretch of the season can pay large dividends.

The dynamic power forward didn't exactly get off to a good start in Game 1, a contest that wasn't nearly as close as the final 17-point margin indicates:

Again, he was far too fond of taking jumpers out on the perimeter. In the loss, Smith took seven shots from inside the paint, making five of them. Once he ventured outside into the more neutral-colored area of the court, he was a putrid 2-of-8.

Throughout the remaining portion of Atlanta's postseason, Smith is going to find himself in plenty of situations that mirror this one. He hasn't given opponents a reason to respect his jumper, so they don't need to bother closing out any further.

During this play—which you join in medias res, right after Smith received a desperation pass from Devin Harris, who was falling out of bounds—the forward chose to shoot. The result, much to the chagrin of Atlanta fans, was a clang of the iron.

Kyle Korver is standing in the corner, Jeff Teague at the top of the key and Al Horford in the mid-range location he's so deadly from. Driving affords Smith the opportunity to use his superior finishing skills or his above-average distributing ones to create a higher percentage play.

Once he receives it and faces up, he's in a nearly identical situation to the previous play from the first quarter. Harris is now cutting across the court instead of recovering while out of bounds, but Smith is still faced with the shoot-pass-or-drive dilemma.

With his back to the basket, Smith is able to push West back into the paint, and he eventually finishes the play with a pretty left-handed hook shot that drops through the net for two points. Once he's established himself closer to the basket, the options are diverse, and they're all more positive than a Smoove jumper that isn't exactly smooth.

As a whole, Drew's offensive system with the Hawks is fairly bland. It consists primarily of pick-and-rolls at the top of the key with a few isolation plays mixed in. All the while, the shooters run curls and expect the ball if they get open.

It's not exactly a system built to maximize Smith's talents, which makes it all the more imperative that he milk every possession for its greatest possible value.

If we see Smith settle for jumpers, the Hawks will have virtually no shot of advancing, and the forward's days in red and blue will be limited. As has been the case for a few years, there's no certainty when dealing with Smith's future, but each shot he takes from the outside is digging him a deeper and deeper hole.

This summer is bound to be a monumentally important time in the headband-wearing, shot-blocking potential superstar's life. How he handles the rest of the postseason will inevitably have a large impact.

As the hypothetical version of Hamlet who rooted for the Atlanta Hawks might say: To shoot or not to shoot, that is the question.

Watch Harrison Barnes Bring High-Flying Act to Playoffs with Nifty Reverse Dunk

As the Golden State Warriors were out-running the Denver Nuggets to a huge 131-117 Game 2 win on the road, Harrison Barnes reminded us all that he's just about athletic enough to dunk over anything and everything you could put in front of him.

With the Warriors doing their best to hold the Nuggets at arm's length down the stretch, Barnes took the ball off the dribble with Anthony Randolph covering.

Randolph, not being the most quick-footed defender Denver has to offer, got beat on the first step toward the hoop, but stayed close enough to Barnes to keep him from getting an open head-on look at a dunk.

No problem, says Barnes, as he goes up and slams down a dunk on the reverse with Randolph standing helplessly underneath the rim.

It was really just another two points in an otherwise tremendous night for Barnes, who put in 24 points on just 14 shot attempts.

Barnes did nearly everything right in the game, barely missing a shot, playing tremendous defense and giving Kent Bazemore a reason to get off the bench and go completely insane.

If anything, the tremendous reaction from the Warriors bench was the highlight of the dunk, although I suppose the dunk itself was pretty thunderous.

Does Alex Ovechkin's Warm Function Make California Capitals a Stanley Cup Challenger?

The start of the 2013 period produced a tremendous sigh of relief to the NHL. Following a four-month lockout, things were back to normal. Or were they? Once teams began reporting to training camp, a basic league-wide idea was evoked nearly universally.AWith a 48-game time, it was about getting down to a warm start. Begin the season slowly and a team may likely get buried. That idea certainly made sense, nonetheless it wasn't true. Situation in point: the Washington Capitals. The Capitals got off to an unpleasant start under rookie head coach Adam Oates. After their first 11 activities, Washington was 2-8-1 and were in last invest the Southeast Division. It seemed that Alex Ovechkin was merely a shell of the superstar he had been early in the day in his profession and that Oates had to proceed through quite a bit of growing pains. But after having a 5-2 home reduction to the Pittsburgh Penguins in early February, the Capitals started to improve. They won six of these next eight games to find their pace, but when the high-flying Boston Bruins came to town March 5 they appeared to take over their heads. At the time, the Bruins were playing fabulous baseball and they got out to a 3-0 first-period cause with almost no effort. The Caps slowed the Bruins' attack, scored two goals in the 2nd period to have close and then tied the score in the third period. When Eric Fehr scored a objective in overtime, the Caps were no further fighting. They became a confident group that evening andAhave kept their base on the gas pedal since that time. They asserted themselves in the Southeast Division when they won a couple of street games at Winnipeg in late March.AThe Caps knew at that point that evening they had the group to win their division and did soAwith a win at home over the Jets Tuesday. The final goal was fittingly scored by ovechkin, an that went for his league-leading 31st tally. He is been on fire down the stretch, scoring 21 ambitions in his last 19 games. As the seed in the Eastern Conference. They only might be the second-best team in the conference when the playoffs get underway the Caps should go in to the playoffs. Washington would still have quite a distance to get if they are likely to compete with the Pittsburgh Penguins in a best-of-seven playoff series. However, the Montreal Canadiens and the Bruins have already been slumping poorly with the playoffs on the horizon. Both of the clubs have the talent to show it around, nevertheless the Capitals appear better now. Ovechkin is scoring clutch objectives, the Capitals protection is active and splitting up rushes and Braden Holtby has shown to be a big-time goalie. Holtby beat Boston in last year's playoffs and pressed the New York Rangers to eight games in the second round He got off to a rough start in 2013, but has followed his team's lead and turned it about with a 22-12-1 history, a goals against average and a.920 save percentage. The Caps will more than likely face the New York Islanders, New York Rangers or Ottawa Senators in the initial round. They've the firepower to beat any of those groups and make a legitimate function in the Eastern Conference. 3 months before, the Capitals were all but hidden for their slow start. However, they've learned that it's maybe not how you start, but how you finish. They'll also provide an opportunity to produce yet another outstanding end in the postseason.

San Francisco Giants: Breaking Down What Bob Lincecum's 1st Begin Means

Despite the fact that Tim Lincecum was the winning pitcher in the Bay Area Giants' 5-3 win over the La Dodgers on Wednesday evening, he was not particularly sharp. In five innings, he walked seven and threw only 46 of his 91 pitches for strikes. To be fair, catcher Hector Sanchez probably cost him at the very least five strikes together with his inability to figure pitches effectively. Then again, Lincecum's lack of get a handle on makes him extremely difficult to frame. Lincecum only allowed three hits, which helped limit the harm to two works despite dozens of guides. One of those hits was a ball hit by A.J. Ellis that Hunter Pence needs to have found on the warning track. Pence slowed up at the conclusion of his course as as a result he was going towards center fielder Angel Pagan, and had the ball clank off of his glove. To Lincecum's credit, he could pitch around that misplay by striking out Skip Schumaker and then finding Matt Kemp to fly out with the bases loaded to obtain out of the 2nd inning jam. This past year, the wheels generally fell off the bus in these situations, as Lincecum helped batters to hit.286/.400/.487 with runners in scoring position. In Lincecum's first start of the period, he surely could toss through the messes made by his not enough control and by the Giants' poor security. The Dodgers were just 1-for-9 with four walks and a fly against Lincecum with runners in scoring position. Both of the Dodgers' runs from Lincecum were unearned. One run scored while the consequence of a ' passed ball and yet another run was due to an error by Buster Posey at first base. Lincecum put 11 men on base (such as the Posey error), but stranded eight of these. Stranding runners was a big problem for The Freak last yeara'his 67.8 per cent string price was the sixth worst in baseball in 2012. The ability to strand runners and frequency successfully with runners in scoring position were positive indicators for Lincecum on Wednesday. But, his lack of control and inability to keep his rate were uncomfortable trends that carried over from last year in to his first time of 2013. Lincecum had the next worst walk rate in the category last season, and his eight walks in only five innings of work wasn't an encouraging growth. Selling coach Dave Righetti tried to help Lincecum workout the kinks against the Dodgers.Victor Decolongon/Getty Images Lincecum arrived of the entrance tossing his fastball between 91-93 miles hourly in the first inning according to the radar gun on the Comcast television broadcast. But, he never struck 93 again following the first. By the end of the night, his fastball was sitting between 88-90 MPH. Lincecum's failure to keep up his velocity beyond the starting figure is a big reason he'd grow more in a relief role as he did in the postseason last year. If he just had to undergo a selection onetime, his speed may likely play up in these smaller stints. Instead of putting 88-93, probably his velocity would take back up into the 93-96 as it has for modified relievers like Glenn Perkins and Wade Davis, to mention two examples. Perkins' average fastball pace was 89.7 MPH in his final year as a starter in '09. Last year, his average fastball was 94.9 MPH coming out of the bullpen.A Davis' average fastball acceleration jumped from 91.4 to 93.5 MPH with the conversion to aid last year with the Rays, although Kansas City has decided to move him back to the turn. Alas, the Giants aren't in any hurry to change their highest paid person in to a long reliever. However, despite Lincecum's ability to pitch out of jams on Wednesday, it's still unclear he is definitely an effective beginning this season. If he continues to go the park, the chances are high that it will eventually catch as much as him as it did this past year. If he can't maintain his pace, he'll have to begin showing better get a grip on to compensate for his reduced material. Paid down pace along with decreasing control is actually not really a winning combination. Bernard Lincecum got a and only permitted two unearned runs on Wednesday. The Giants may feel positive about that for a couple days. Nevertheless, no body is going into Lincecum's next start experience very optimistic. He still has a long strategy to use before getting back to being the star he once was.

Michael Buchanan to the Patriots: How Does the DE Fit with New England?

The New England Patriots surprisingly stocked up on defensive ends once again this year in the draft, after having taken two last year as well. Though Chandler Jones seems entrenched at the right defensive end spot, it would be appear all bets are off everywhere else, including Rob Ninkovich's spot.

With so many young defensive ends wanting a roster spot, the competition in training camp should be intense. Clearly, improving their play on the edge was a priority for the Patriots coming into this draft.

The only role left for all the defensive ends outside of Jones at this point is to bring everything you've got to training camp. The most immediate role up for grabs will be as a designated pass-rusher and on special teams, since it seems like a long shot that Michael Buchanan can step into the base defense and play against the run.

He must flash an ability to get to the quarterback early and often in training camp, from a number of different spots, to have a chance to stick.

Buchanan enters a crowded mix at defensive end. This includes Jermaine Cunningham, Ninkovich, Jake Bequette and Justin Francis, to go with fellow rookie Jamie Collins.

Of those six players, there might only be four jobs, depending on if they need to use one of them as an interior rusher like they did with Cunningham last year. If Buchanan can't crack the 53-man roster, he would probably make it through waivers to the practice squad.

It will be an uphill battle for Buchanan to make the roster. The defensive end group is deep and talented, with many players knowing they're facing a make-or-break year. Both Cunningham and Bequette should come to camp with something to prove, or they'll likely be cut at the end of the summer.

For Buchanan to knock one or both of them off might be a tall task. But you can never have too many pass-rushers, and Bill Belichick does not mind taking the time to develop them on the practice squad if necessary, as he did with Markell Carter, though he never worked out in New England.

2013 NFL Draft Grades: Full Morning 3 Statement Card

4.1 (98) Philadelphia Eagles (From JAX )a'Matt Barkley (QB USC) Whoa, a business up for a QB that will not fit the system? Now, he'll be accurate in Kelly's timing program, but he'll not have the capability to stretch the field, do any running or give the quick reach component to go with the quick-tempo. Great value and fits a need, but appears like a similar player as Nick Foles and better fits were available. (Grade C) 4.2 (99) Kansas City Chiefsa'Nico Johnson (LB Alabama) Decent importance (though there are more-talented LBs on the table), but a good match as Johnson has experience in the 3-4 and is really a good run-plugger. Has Stephen Curry Proved He Is a Top-5 Point Guard?

How many people out there had an idea that Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry would be this good this soon after the Warriors selected Curry with the seventh pick in the 2009 NBA draft?

Curry was drafted after James Harden, Tyreke Evans, Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn, and four years later the only player among those mentioned who have enjoyed the same level of professional success is Harden.

When the Warriors selected Curry, many analysts couldn't see beyond his feathery jump shot. Despite the quickest release in recent memory, few felt that he would be able to consistently get that shot off against NBA-level talent.

To be fair, can those critics be blamed for failing to understand what type of talent Curry truly was considering his path to the NBA?

Curry wasn't on many major college radars following his senior season at Charlotte Christian School in Charlotte, NC in spite of his ridiculous shooting skill, which was evident early.

In fact, even though Charlotte sits in the heart of ACC country the only school in that conference that even offered to give Curry a look was Virginia Tech, and that was only because his father Dell was a former player.

It was abundantly clear at the time that Curry had inherited his father's jump shot, but that still wasn't enough to persuade Virginia Tech to offer him a scholarship.

The Currys chose to decline Dell's alma mater's offer to walk-on as a freshman, and instead Stephen enrolled at tiny Davidson, just outside of Charlotte. The rest is history.

Curry was consistently among the top scorers in college basketball during his time at Davidson, and despite leading a run in the 2007 NCAA tournament that ended just short of the Final Four, and a switch to point guard during his final season in college no one thought he could produce the same way at the next level.

Not only has Curry proved his doubters wrong, but at this point there are serious questions as to how good the 25-year-old sensation can be if he keeps improving.

Curry has already connected on more three-pointers than any other player in a single season. He did it in 61 fewer attempts than Ray Allen, and his 45 percent shooting percentage from long range proves he did it more efficiently.

Curry's other talents, such as his smooth handles and court vision, are easy to overlook when Curry is raining down threes often over multiple defenders, but those are the aspects of his game that have boosted him to elite status.

Chris Paul, Tony Parker and Deron Williams are probably considered the top point guards still playing at this point, and statistically Curry has out-performed each one of them in the postseason, and it's not even close.

Curry is the only one averaging double-digit assists in that group, and his 26 points per game is four more than Parker's 22 per game.

The Warriors lost their top big man David Lee for the remainder of the postseason in their Game 1 loss against the Denver Nuggets, and Golden State hasn't lost since.

Everyone in the arena knows that if you shut down Curry you kill the Warriors' season, but how exactly does an opponent do it?

If you choose to crowd Curry on the perimeter he simply drives around you and passes to a wide open teammate, or he unleashes a deadly array of soft floaters in the lane.

You can try doubling Curry early but that leaves him a variety of passing lanes, or in the most frustrating instance he just shoots over any number of defenders an opponent sends at him.

In my opinion the definition of an elite player is one who defies any game plan to stop him, and we can safely say that Curry occupies that space, even with an injured ankle.

Most people will still be hesitant to include Curry in a class of elite lead guards that includes Paul, Williams, Parker and the injured Rajon Rondo and Derrick Rose, but in truth he's already there.

Each of those players has an attribute that sets them apart from the field like Paul's feel for a situation or Williams' strength or Parker's quickness, and Curry has that same talent with his shooting ability.

Whether or not Curry is a top-five player at his position is a highly subjective question, but what does it mean when you add in the fact that he's performing at a higher level than all of the point guards ranked above him?

Poor Joe Hart. The Manchester City goalkeeper had per day never to remember today when West Ham United striker Andy Carroll took a shot, limited to the ball to embarrassingly go under Joe Hartas legs and in to the back of the web. Carroll brilliantly chested the ball down seriously to create space and then exposed a shot right at Joe Hart, nevertheless the ball crept between his feet. Tottenham Hotspur v. Wigan Athletic: Match Report - Cartilage Free Captain (blog)

Spurs failed to capitalize on their early dominance and had to claw their way back into the match to salvage a point.

Spurs squandered a great chance to jump into third place and steal the initiative in the race for the Champions League. Instead, a lackluster second half against a Wigan side desperate to avoid the drop saw us barely escape with a point.

Tottenham started the match brightly, employing a 4-3-3 formation similar to the one we ended the Man City match with, with Parker coming back into the side at the expense of Lewis Holtby.

We dominated the early exchanges, with Bale heading inches wide from a Huddlestone free kick as early as the second minute. Kyle Walker had the beating of Beausejour all day and created several good chances.

It wouldn't take long for our early dominance to pay off, as Bale scored one of the most comical goals you'll see all season in the 9th minute. Bale chased down a terrible backpass from Figueroa to Robles and the keeper's clearance cannoned off the bottom of Bale's outstretched right foot straight back into the top corner of the goal.

Of course, Spurs can never make anything easy on themselves. Less then a minute later, McManaman beat Vertonghen down the wing, and the Spurs defender poked the ball away from a corner. Vertonghen was then beaten again from the resulting corner, easily outjumped by Emerson Boyce who nodded home the equalizer.

Unfazed by the reversal of fortune, Spurs stayed on top for most of the first half. Huddlestone kept trying to loft balls over the back line for Spurs' attacking players to run on to, but we never managed to quite make things click. Our long balls fell most frequently to Defoe and Walker. The Wigan defense did just enough to put Defoe off his shooting, and Walker couldn't manage to find anyone in the box with his crossing.

Our best chance of the half came when Defoe burst into the box after a great ball from Huddlestone. The wee man tried to round the keeper, but Robles did just enough to get his fingers to the ball and take it off Defoe's foot. Parker followed the play and latched onto the ball, but rather than shoot first time he decided to take a few touches, dribbling straight into the keeper's still-outstretched arm.

Two injuries marred the first half, with Figueroa stretchered off with a groin pull and Mousa Dembele injuring his hamstring, replaced by Lewis Holtby.

Wigan stayed on top for the next 15 minutes, when AVB finally decided to do something about it. In a tactical masterstroke he replaced Naughton with . . . Assou-Ekotto? This baffling decision to make a like for like left back change while trailing mystified supporters and did nothing to impact the course of the game.

A minute later, Spurs should have found themselves facing 10 men, when Jordi Gomez launched a high kick at Holtby's face/chest area while already on a yellow card, but the ref waved it off. Spurs could have very much used the help, because they still didn't look like getting back into the game.

In the 73rd minute, AVB tossed the dice with his last substitution, bringing on the returning Aaron Lennon for Scott Parker. This saw our formation switch from the 4-3-3 to more of 4-4-2, with Lennon and Bale playing wide and Dempsey moving behind Defoe in the middle.

We had a couple of decent moves, but never really looked like scoring. But in the 87th minute, Kyle Walker beat Beauseejour, earning a free kick on the right side of Wigan's box. Hudd shocked everyone by playing a low pass in to Gareth Bale instead of lofting it into the box. Bale scuffed a shot backwards into Emerson Boyce, and the ball bounced off the unfortunate defender and straight into the back of the net.

Spurs tried to steal all three points, and almost made it happen in the 94th minute. Defoe won a free kick at the edge of the box and Robles could only parry Bale's effort. The ball fell straight to Tom Huddlestone 8 yards out and the midfielder should have finally earned his haircut, but he blasted it straight back at the keeper. The ball pinged around the box, with Defoe's acrobatic attempt blocked by Boyce and Dempsey's tame effort cleared away, before the whistle went and the match ended all square.

Four points from matches against Wigan and City aren't terrible, but after doing the hard part and bagging three against City, winning today's match should have been the easy part. Our top four destiny is now out of our hands, and we desperately need United and Swansea to take points off our rivals.

Tottenham Hotspur v. Wigan Athletic: Match Survey - Cartilage Free Captain (website)

Spurs did not capitalize on their early prominence and had to claw their way back in to the fit to salvage a point. Well, this was ridiculous. A great chance was squandered by spurs to jump in to third place and take the initiative in the competition for the Champions League. Alternatively, a lackluster second half against a Wigan side anxious in order to avoid the drop found us hardly escape with a point. Tottenham began the match glowingly, employing a 4-3-3 formation like the one we ended the Person City match with, with Parker finding its way back in to the part at the trouble of Lewis Holtby. The early exchanges were dominated by us, with Bale going inches wide from the Huddlestone free end as early because the next second. Kyle Walker had the beating of Beausejour throughout the day and made several good chances. It would maybe not take miss our early visibility to pay off, as Bale won among the most comical goals you'll see all time in the 9th minute. Bale chased down a terrible backpass from Figueroa to Robles and the keeper's clearance cannoned off the base of Bale's outstretched right foot back into the top corner of the purpose. Of on themselves course, Spurs can never make anything easy. Less then a second later, McManaman beat Vertonghen down the wing, and the Spurs defense poked the ball from a large part. Vertonghen was then crushed again from the corner, quickly outjumped by Emerson Boyce who nodded house the equalizer. Unfazed by the change of fortune, Spurs stayed on the top for some of the initial half. Huddlestone kept trying to loft balls over the back line for Spurs' attacking players to run onto, but we never managed to quite make things click. Our long balls fell most regularly to Defoe and Walker. The Wigan security did just enough to place Defoe off his shooting, and Walker couldn't have the ability to find anyone in the field with his crossing. Our most readily useful chance of the half got when Defoe burst into the box following a good ball from Huddlestone. The tiny man tried to round the keeper, but Robles did just enough to have his fingers to the ball and get it off Defoe's foot. Parker used the play and latched onto the ball, but alternatively than throw first time he made a decision to have a few variations, dribbling straight into the keeper's still-outstretched arm. Two injuries marred the very first half, with Figueroa stretchered off with a pull and Mousa Dembele hurting his hamstring, replaced by Lewis Holtby. Wigan slept on top for the next quarter-hour, when AVB finally decided to do something positive about it. In a tactical masterstroke he replaced Naughton with. . . Assou-Ekotto? That confusing choice to make a like for like left straight back while following mystified fans change and did nothing to effect the course of the game. One minute later, Spurs should have found themselves facing 10 men, when Jordi Gomez presented a high end at Holtby's face/chest region while previously on a yellow card, but the ref waved it down. Spurs may have quite definitely used the support, since they still did not look like getting back to the overall game. In the 73rd minute, AVB tossed the dice with his last replacement, bringing on the returning Aaron Lennon for Scott Parker. Our formation switch was seen by this from the 4-3-3 to more of 4-4-2, with Lennon and Bale playing broad and Dempsey going behind Defoe in the middle. We had several good moves, but never truly appeared to be scoring. But in the 87th minute, Kyle Walker beat Beauseejour, earning a free kick on the proper side of Wigan's box. Everyone was shocked by hudd by playing a pass in to Gareth Bale as opposed to lofting it in to the field. Bale grazed an attempt backwards into Emerson Boyce, and the ball bounced off the unfortunate opponent and directly into the back of the internet. Spurs tried to steal all three items, and almost managed to get happen in the 94th moment. Defoe won a free end at the edge of the package and Robles could only parry Bale's effort. The ball fell straight to Tom Huddlestone 8 yards out and the midfielder needs to have finally earned his haircut, but he blasted it straight straight back at the keeper. The ball pinged around the box, with Defoe's acrobatic test blocked by Boyce and Dempsey's tame effort cleared away, before the whistle went and the match concluded all square. Four points from fits against Wigan and City aren't horrible, but after doing the hard part and bagging three against City, earning today's match needs to have been the simple part. Our top four destiny is currently out of our arms, and we desperately require United and Swansea to take points off our competitors.

Marathon deaths prompt review of security policy

And, as a result of the two backpack-encased bombs that exploded near the finish line at the Boston Marathon, sports teams and leagues around the world are rethinking what kind of bags, satchels, purses and, yes, black nylon backpacks should be allowed inside stadiums and arenas.

"After what happened ... I wouldn't be surprised if the number of people eliminating backpacks would increase," said Lou Marciani, director of the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security, founded in 2006 and based at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

Next Saturday, more than 165,000 people are expected at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby. Backpacks, duffel bags and large purses have been banned from the track since 2002 — part of the clamp-down that followed the Sept. 11 attacks. Still, Derby officials have told fans their bags will undergo increased security checks for this year's race.

No matter where the world ends up on the bag-check spectrum, some fans may never again regard the pack slung across their body quite the same way.

"I never really thought about backpacks until last week, and now you notice backpacks all over the place," said Ryan Hershberger of Hartwell, Ga., as he headed into a Colorado Rockies game carrying a black backpack. "It makes you think."

"I've been thinking about it all day," Joel Cross said on the concourse at the Pepsi Center in Denver. He and his wife traveled from Harrisburg, Neb., to attend Tuesday night's Nuggets playoff game. "We're from a community where our whole county only has 600 people in it. Nobody is going to bomb us because there's no one there. But we're coming to a populated area."

The NFL beefed up security for thousands of fans attending its annual draft, which runs through Saturday, with metal detectors, pat-downs and about 20 percent more personnel in place than previous years. Backpacks are banned. The league said it would consider what, if any, changes might be made for the 2013 season, which ends with the Super Bowl in New York next February.

Major League Baseball's security officials met Thursday but Commissioner Bud Selig said no changes are expected in the rules on bags fans can bring to ballparks, generally limited to 16x16x8 inches. The meeting was scheduled before the Boston explosions that killed three and injured more than 260/

At Yankee Stadium, for example, briefcases, coolers and other hard-sided bags or containers are not permitted. At Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium, wrapped presents are banned along with cameras with lenses of 12 or more inches. The Baltimore Orioles ban bags with wheels at Camden Yards.

Boston and San Francisco were among the teams opting to use metal-detecting wands on fans and their possessions this week.

"We've added people, and people are getting in faster now, so we're going to stick with the plan," Giants president and CEO Larry Baer said.

Though the marathon bombings caught the attention of the world, not every event or championship, especially overseas, is beefing up or changing security measures.

For instance, officials at Manchester United, the FA Cup final and the European Champions League say their policies, which either ban large bags or strongly discourage them, are under constant review but not set to change.

"We did, of course, contact the police in the aftermath of the Boston bombings, as part of our commitment to the security of fans and visitors to the stadium," Manchester United said in a statement.

"It was a terrible event, but we have no reason to believe it's something that has a direct impact on Wimbledon," All-England Club chief executive Richard Lewis said, referring to the Boston explosions.

At the Summer Olympics in London, soft-sided bags were required to fit under seats and couldn't hold more than 25 liters (6 gallons).

Sebastian Coe, who led London's organizing committee, says a ban on backpacks at sports events would not be justified.

"We have to make some pretty tough decisions in the way we want to live our lives," he said. "It's very easy to draw all sorts of conclusions (from the Boston bombings). Do we want to live in a world where people can't wear backpacks to sporting events? I'm not sure we do."

Organizers in Brazil aren't making any radical changes to their backpack policy for the upcoming Confederations Cup or next year's World Cup. So far, the extensive list of prohibited items includes "unwieldy" bags — no more than 10x10x10 inches and too big to fit under a seat.

Officials in Russia, which hosts the 2018 World Cup, said that whenever a sports-related tragedy occurs, they review what happened "to ensure that our own regulations and procedures are sufficiently covering such potential tragedies or risks."

In Sochi, Russia, site of February's Winter Olympics, security for test events was so stringent that the president of the international skiing federation, Gian Franco Kasper, cracked, "The only moment they didn't inspect our athletes was during the race."

International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound of Canada said one strategy might be to push back security boundaries.

"I remember in Vancouver and other places, the tension between the organizers and the events and the security folks was over the size of the perimeter," Pound said. "If you can move the perimeter back 50 or 100 meters, a backpack bomb is going to have less lethal effect."

In the U.S., NBA spokesman Tim Frank wouldn't comment on specific security practices, beyond saying: "We regularly practice a wide range of state of the art security measures in all of our arenas." The Nuggets have long used wands and searched bags. But Cross' wife, Shelly, said she noticed a more extensive security presence at Tuesday's game than the last time they made the trip to Denver.

At least one backpack developer said she was unaware of any pending changes to basic designs. She also thought the bombings were unlikely to create a need for see-thru or clear backpacks.

"I don't think people want to share their belongings with everyone. Everyone wants their privacy," said Annelies Mertens, a member of the Samsonite development team in Belgium. "I don't think this will have an influence on the way backpacks are made. I don't see that happening."

While the Boston Marathon presented its own set of difficult challenges — securing a 26-mile course dotted with trash cans and spectators on almost every block — one expert says there's no such thing as perfect security guidelines, regardless of venue.

"A no-backpack policy is fine if it applies to everyone," said Derek Catsam, an associate professor at University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa who has studied the safety issue in stadiums. "But then you start making exceptions for people with kids, and for the elderly and for women with purses and people in expensive seats. Where does it end? You can have a policy or not have a policy. But once you start selectively enforcing it, that's going to be problematic."

After the bombings, the NHL's Boston Bruins added metal-detecting wands to their security regimen and checked cars parking in a garage underneath the arena. Security measures vary by arena in the NHL. The New York Islanders, for example, don't allow backpacks; the Detroit Red Wings ban oversized bags and search all bags that are allowed in.

Catsam said security can always be ratcheted up, but then comes the issue of how much convenience people are willing to give up for the sake of safety.

"They could start saying you can bring whatever kind of backpack you want but you have to go through an X-ray system like you do at the airport," he said. "It would take forever and we'd adjust, but I'm not sure what we'll discover or if we'll be making anything really safer."

Marciani, on the other hand, envisions a day when backpacks are as obsolete at a stadium as the bulky transistor radios that fans once brought along so they could listen to play-by-play as they watched the game.

"I think it's just one less aggravation we'd have to put up with," he said. "I'd just say, 'Why backpacks at a stadium?' I don't think we need them."

Duncan's steady Spurs put Lakers on the brink

LOS ANGELES (AP) — While the Los Angeles Lakers have been a jumble of injury, inconsistency and general weirdness throughout their tumultuous season, Tim Duncan's San Antonio Spurs have spent yet another year as the model of NBA efficiency as they grind out wins with their usual dominance.

It's not tough to guess which team has the other on the brink of playoff elimination — particularly with Steve Nash watching in a suit and Kobe Bryant sitting in the training room.

Duncan had 26 points and nine rebounds, Tony Parker added 20 points and seven assists, and the Spurs beat the Lakers 120-89 in Game 3 on Friday night, the worst home loss in Los Angeles' lengthy postseason history.

A largely silent Staples Center watched San Antonio bully the Lakers to the precipice of first-round playoff elimination for the first time since 2007. The short-handed Lakers played without their top four guards due to injury, and the Spurs posted their biggest win of a series thoroughly controlled by coach Gregg Popovich's playoff-tested club.

"We respect these guys, and we're not trying to give them any momentum whatsoever," Duncan said. "We try to play the whole 48 (minutes), and try to play it the right way. We don't want to build their confidence, and they don't get their rhythm."

The Lakers exceeded their 29-point home loss to Portland on May 22, 2000, the previous worst home defeat for the 16-time NBA champion franchise. Staples Center's lower bowl was half empty in the final minutes, an unfamiliar sight in an arena used to celebrating championships.

San Antonio led throughout the final 44 minutes, going up by 18 in the first half and 25 early in the fourth quarter with its smooth, flexible offense. Tiago Splitter limped to the Spurs' locker room late in the third quarter with a sprained left ankle, but not much else went poorly for San Antonio.

"I think we're playing fairly well," Popovich said. "Whether the team you're playing is whole, or banged up like the Lakers are ... we have to bring the energy and the professionalism to play."

"It's been a very tough year, but we're not going to make any excuses, and we're not going to quit," Dwight Howard said. "We're not going to hold our heads down because of the things that have happened this season."

Howard had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Pau Gasol added his first career playoff triple-double with 11 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, but the Spurs barely seemed to notice. Andrew Goudelock scored a career-high 20 points in his first playoff start, and fellow starter Darius Morris scored 12 of his 24 points in the blowout fourth quarter.

With Bryant and Nash joined by Jodie Meeks and Steve Blake on the injured list, the Lakers started Goudelock, signed from the NBA's D-League 12 days ago, and Morris, who barely played for long stretches of this season. The young guards didn't play poorly, but they weren't enough to overcome Duncan's dominance and Parker's continued move back to top form.

"The first half, we gave everything we had, and it obviously wasn't enough," Los Angeles coach Mike D'Antoni said. "I thought our guys played as hard as they can play."

The Lakers' tumultuous season appears to be drawing to a merciful end, since they're nearly out of healthy players after beginning the season with a star-studded roster and championship aspirations.

Nine of the Lakers' 15 players were on their injury report for Game 3, and Metta World Peace played despite getting fluid drained from a cyst behind his surgically repaired left knee. After the game, World Peace said he'll probably sit out Game 4.

Bryant attended the game, hobbling through the Lakers' locker room before the game with crutches and a large walking boot on his immobilized ankle, but didn't join Nash, Blake and Meeks watching in suits at courtside.

The Lakers were forced to rely on Goudelock, their second-round draft pick from two years ago who spent this season in the D-League until Los Angeles signed him 12 days ago, and Morris, another second-year pro who barely left the Lakers' bench for long stretches this season.

Goudelock, the MVP of the NBA's D-League this season, put up plenty of points with ample opportunities to shoot, but Parker largely matched him while Duncan thoroughly outplayed Howard and Gasol down low with his timeless game as the Spurs pulled away.

San Antonio jumped to an 18-point lead late in the second quarter with steady offense from 10 scorers, while the Lakers had an understandable lack of chemistry.

Goudelock started slowly, but scored 10 points in a 2:25 burst late in the second quarter to trim San Antonio's halftime lead to 55-44.

NOTES: Gasol is the seventh player to post a playoff triple-double in Lakers history. ... F Boris Diaw, the Spurs' only player with a significant injury, is running on a treadmill and shooting in his comeback from the removal of a cyst from his spine. He's likely to play 2-on-2 with contact next week. ... World Peace ran with obvious discomfort in his knee. Before the game, he considered sitting out, but didn't feel he could miss a game with the Lakers' injury woes. ... Mark Henry vs. Ryback Did Not Last Good Enough

The power-fueled feud between Ryback and Mark Henry finished too soon. WWE needed a premier heel to simply take CM Punk's area, anyone to challenge the recently crowned John Cena. Turning Ryback to the dark side made sense because of this, however it robbed supporters of a potentially explosive feud and hurried Ryback's ascent to the WWE title image. Ryback and Henry's WrestleMania match was supposed to be a struggle to decide who was master of the jungle. Henry won when he thwarted a Shell Shocked attempt and crashed onto his opponent. No revenge was sought by other than the post-match attack, Ryback, no payoff. In fact, that loss was somehow ridden by him to get to be the unofficial No. 1 competitor for their greatest title. It felt a little like if the La Lakers dropped to the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the NBA playoffs but advanced all the way to the finals anyway. WWE, of course, does not adhere to ratings and reliable methods to determine who's title-worthy, but nonetheless it felt odd that a decline propelled Ryback to the most truly effective of the company while Henry's win earned him a feud with Sheamus. James has been a test to prove how legitimate a threat Ryback is, but Big Hungry sidestepped his stepping stone en approach to his feud with Cena for the WWE Championship. Beyond that, however, the truncated feud between Henry and Ryback felt unfinished. Ryback hardly ever really avenged this assault. Henry choked him with a and left him to fend for herself from The Shield. He dominated Ryback for much of their WrestleMania 29 match. Then the story was over. Feuds do not need certainly to follow a three-pay-per-view formula, but its buildup was not followed by this one with a satisfying climax. Besides, those two beasts could have a fantastic group of fits. Their WrestleMania 29 match revealed glimpses of what these two were with the capacity of together. Seeing them cost at each other was like two trains crashing head-on. The crash of mountain compared to. Pile between two of the powerful and most intense forces in WWE might have been powerful, violent movie. Ryback and James could have had a feud-ending battle at Extreme Rules, where they could have determined the ultimate victor by means of a Count Anywhere or Last Man Standing fit. Rather, Ryback is the successor of an opening left by Punk. He now gets the possibility to present his capacity to succeed in the top level opposite their greatest star. For Ryback, a WWE concept fit trumps avenging his WrestleMania loss. For supporters, nevertheless, a hiccup in hierarchy reasoning can be ignored, but the untapped possible of the Henry and Ryback feud leaves them feeling hungry for more.

West Bromwich Albion get at Southampton as three players sent down - The Guardian

As West Bromwich Albion romped to a record-breaking victory at Southampton the umpire, Robert Madley, had a Premier League introduction to keep in mind, doling out three red cards. Having made a ascent up the leagues, the Yorkshireman was given his maiden top-flight match at St Mary's a one many had expected to be a peaceful affair. How wrong these were, with Marc Antoine-FortunA opening the rating in the sixth minute after Saints failed to clear. FortunA served West Brom double their cause after the break, putting through the ever-impressive Romelu Lukaku to slot house past Artur Boruc. Just three minutes later FortunA was sent down, having raised his hands to GastAn RamArez after the Uruguayan had placed an at Shane Long. RamArez, who'd come on as a substitute, was sent down for the event and was joined in the dressing room eight minutes from time by his team-mate Danny Fox, dismissed for a nasty two-footed problem on Steven Reid. Long had already made it 3-0 by that time as West Brom set a brand new team record for Premier League matches gained (14) and details received (48), much to the delight of the bumper absent crowd of 3,195. Bob Clarke's side centered from the beginning and Reid enjoyed through Lukaku early on, forcing Boruc into motion at his near post. The Poland global could just change the ball for a large part where West Brom got a sixth-minute lead. Graham Dorrans's set piece was nodded goalwards by Gareth McAuley and then Lukaku, allowing FortunA to deal home from close range. Fox attempted to hack the ball clear but there is to be no goalline controversy at the surface at which Hawk-Eye did their testing, with the ball demonstrably crossing the line. In fact, it was an undesirable goal to admit and typified a lacklustre begin by the hosts. Saints pulled themselves together for the remainder of the half but were not able to find an equaliser, with a robust Nathaniel Clyne strike and a Lambert free-kick the nearest they came. Lukaku was refused by Boruc late on for the readers, whose midfielder Claudio Yacob was fortunate to not be sent down after clattering Adam Lallana moments after being scheduled. The half-time whistle was welcomed by boos as the home supporters expressed their disappointment with the performance of Madley. Jack Cork was replaced by ramarez if the groups returned, while Saints were still struggling to threaten the West Brom target. Saints found themselves two targets behind in the 67th second. FortunA was permitted to turn much too quickly and his through basketball found Lukaku, who rounded Boruc before slotting home. It was a superb guide by FortunA, whose evening was brought to an early end 3 minutes later. Upset by RamArez's knee to Long, the West Brom frontman pressed the Uruguayan in the face. It light emitting diode Madley to exhibit FortunA a straight red card a something he also passed out to RamArez. The game became more open, with a last-ditch Morgan Schneiderlin handle the thing stopping James Morrison rendering it 3-0 with the edges both reduced to 10 men. West Brom wouldn't be denied for long, however, with Long slotting home past Boruc after getting far from Jos Hooiveld. Minutes were gone from bad to worse for the visitors seven by things from time when Fox, playing as opposed to the wounded Luke Shaw, was sent down for an awful two-footed lunge on Reid. Perhaps not since Portsmouth confronted Sunderland in February 2010 features a Premier League match seen three cards, a predicament that overshadowed an excellent win for the guests.

Man City and West Ham fans pay touching tribute for Foe to honour former star ... - Daily Mail

Manchester City and West Ham fans have paid tribute to Marc-Vivien Foe to honour the memory of the midfielder who tragically died 10 years ago.

The club showed an image of Foe, who played for both City and the Hammers, on the electronic boards in the Etihad after 23 minutes and fans of both clubs joined in a minute's applause for the Blues' former No 23.

The Cameroonian collapsed during the Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia on June 26, 2003 and passed away shortly afterwards despite attempts to resuscitate the 28-year-old.

Foe, who also had spells with French sides Lens and Lyon, died following a cardiac arrest. He had the same hereditary heart condition (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) which caused former Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba to collapse on the pitch last year.

West Ham signed Foe for a club record of £4.2million in 1999 before returning to France with Lyon in 2000. He then joined City on loan in 2002 and scored nine times for the club from midfield in his sole season in Manchester. He was the last City player to score at Maine Road.

The idea to applaud on the 23rd minute originated from City fans themselves, with supporters airing their views for the best way to tribute Foe on club forums.

On the 23rd minute, the club showed Foe's portrait on the electronic boards to ensure both sets of fans know to applaud at that time.

Although it is another two months until the 10-year anniversary of Foe's death, the club and fans believe the match between his two former teams this weekend is the most appropriate time available to honour his memory.

One post on mcfcforum.com read: 'On the 27th April, City host West Ham United in the league. How fitting would it be to have the entire stadium applaud and celebrate Foe's life for one minute in the 23rd?

'I am here to ask you all to spread the word amongst your fellow Citizens and Hammers fans. Many of you will not be aware, but there was to be a City v Lyon/West Ham XI game but for reasons unknown it was cancelled.

The Marc-Vivien Foe Fund, aimed at financing research on cardiac arrest, was launched in November 2010 and was backed by the footballer's widow, Marie-Louise.
