Atletico Madrid set up derby Copa del Rey closing against Real Madrid - The Independent

Atletico Madrid setup a King's Cup ultimate with city opponents Real after Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao scored in a 2-2 second leg draw at Sevilla on Wednesday, to progress 4-3 on mixture. Costa, who'd won both Atletico goals from the penalty spot in the first leg, put the guests in control after carving an opening for himself in the heating low and sixth minute to the far corner. His seventh target in the Cup made him the competition's top scorer this season, one ahead of Real's Cristiano Ronaldo and Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo. The Brazilian striker then broke away down the left and crossed minimal for Colombia's Falcao, who darted in front of his sign to report in the 29th. Roared on by way of a noisy house crowd, Sevilla's most dangerous player Jesus Navas breathed life back to the link with a curling shot that went in off the far post just before the break. Sevilla, who beat Atletico 2-0 in the 2010 Cup final, pressed hard in the 2nd half but did not find a method past Thibaut Courtois again until Ivan Rakitic scored with time added on. By then, Sevilla had dropped their cool with Gary Medel being sent off 14 minutes from time, and Geoffrey Kondogbia was red-carded at the conclusion, both for fouls on Costa. Nine-times Cup champions Atletico can meet their neighbours Real in the May 18 final after Jose Mourinho's men swept past members Barcelona on Tuesday to secure a 4-2 mixture victory. The area for the fit has still to be resolved. "To reach your final is very important for Atletico," Falcao told Spanish television. "We went in search of a result from the beginning. We knew they'd come at us and leave spaces. We made probably the most of it and took our chances. On the incidents with Costa, Falcao added: "The end of the overall game was ugly. These exact things happen in activities with too much to enjoy for, but it is left by us available on the pitch." THORN IN PART Costa, 24, has muscled his way in to Atletico's starting team in 2010 with some excellent performances in recent months. He was a continuing thorn in the side for Sevilla with his driving runs, his power in the air, and his ability to get beneath the skin of his opponents. While he was on the floor the hot Medel found red after picking right up two yellow cards in the same event, the second for appearing to stop Costa. Kondogbia received a straight red after he committed a on the Brazilian and then stamped on him between his feet. "We know Costa is provocative but we fell for it," Negredo told Spanish television. Achieving the final shows the continuing improvement of Atletico since Simeone took the helm just over this past year. The former Argentina captain, who helped the team get their last Cup as a player in 1996, guided along side it to the Europa League ultimate last period where they defeat Athletic Bilbao 3-0. They swept aside Champions League winners Chelsea 4-1 in the season-opening European Super Cup, and have surprised many by keeping off Real Madrid to hold to second invest Manhattan project Liga behind leaders Barcelona for such a long time. Atletico have not beaten Real in over ten years but Simeone wasn't ready to examine the ultimate. "It reveals a lack of respect to Sevilla to fairly share Real Madrid following this game against a fantastic rival," he explained. Reuters
