Super Bowl 2013 Halftime Show: How Beyonce Erased Lip-Sync Disaster

Singer Beyonce gave a fantastic halftime performance at Super Bowl XLVII and helped erase the memory of her lip-sync disaster.

The aforementioned disaster occurred during President Obama's inauguration ceremony when it was discovered that she didn't actually perform her beautiful rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" live.

The truth came to light after a rep for the United States Marine Band spilled the beans, per Melissa Cronin of the New York Post:

Beyonce Knowles' flawless performance of "The Star Spangled Banner" at the inauguration was entirely lip-synched, Page Six has confirmed. A rep for the United States Marine Band revealed that she decided to perform to a pre-recorded track at the last minute.

"I practice until my feet bleed and I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra," she said. "Due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk. It was about the president and the inauguration, and I wanted to make him and my country proud, so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry. And I'm very proud of my performance."

That was a tough pill to swallow for many people because Beyonce's rendition was so moving when it was performed that day. It brought a certain level of shame to her career that otherwise never existed, but the Super Bowl was her chance to make up for that.

Beyonce sang a few of her classic hits such as "Crazy in Love" and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," while busting some impressive dance moves. What's more important is that Beyonce hit all the notes she needed to and we got a great taste of that strong voice we've all come to know and love.

Not only did Beyonce keep up with the fast pace of some of her songs, she was also able to slow it down and really stretch her lyrics, which is when she shines the most.

A surprise aspect of her performance—although some had already speculated it would happen—was when she brought out the members of her old group, Destiny's Child.

The three women sang together for a good amount of time, but Beyonce's voice took over her former mates and she stood out far beyond what Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams could produce vocally.

The debacle at the president's inauguration was certainly a black eye for her career, but Beyonce came out on Super Bowl Sunday like a woman on a mission and took her talents to another level just in time for one of the biggest performances of her life.

Sure, there were plenty of people who watched the president's inauguration, but the Super Bowl is by far the biggest television event of any year and has far more viewers. That made it all the more important that Beyonce knock this show out of the park.

If she were an athlete, the word "clutch" would have come to mind. Beyonce needed to step up in a big spot to make up for her errors of the past and she did just that.

Which Harbaugh Brother Has a Better Shot of Returning to the Super Bowl in 2014?

The first Harbaugh Super Bowl was a hard-fought battle that came down to the final minute. The elder Harbaugh, John, won this time. However, it's his younger brother, Jim, who has the best chance to win a ring next season.

The San Francisco 49ers have a better chance of a repeat trip to the Super Bowl simply because the core of their team will be intact.

As every football fan knows, Ray Lewis is retiring. However, the Baltimore Ravens could face several other big losses this offseason because of salary-cap issues.

Joe Flacco earned himself quite a payday because of his outstanding performance in the playoffs. In order to retain Flacco, the Ravens will have to dish out elite quarterback money.

However, if they re-sign Flacco, they will most likely lose a couple other key players. Tight end Dennis Pitta, linebackers Dannell Ellerbee and Paul Kruger and cornerback Cary Williams are all young, promising players who are unrestricted free agents. Ellerbee and Kruger will be very important to re-sign since the Ravens are losing Lewis.

Veteran left tackle Bryant McKinnie, who protected Flacco extremely well throughout the season, also has an expiring contract.

Most importantly, longtime Raven Ed Reed is also a free agent. He's coming off a season with four interceptions. Reed will command a lot of cash, considering that he's one of the greatest safeties of all time.

On the other hand, the only high-impact players the 49ers could possibly lose during free agency are safety Dashon Goldson, defensive lineman Isaac Sopoaga and special teams ace Ted Ginn, Jr. Additionally, it's extremely likely that backup quarterback Alex Smith will start the 2013 season with another franchise. However, most of their important players will certainly be back on the team.

The Ravens also have a much tougher schedule next year. They will partake in seven games against teams that made the playoffs this season in the Cincinnati Bengals (twice), New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. They also play the playoff-caliber Pittsburgh Steelers twice and the Chicago Bears.

Even if everything goes the Ravens way in the offseason and next year's regular season, it'll be hard to duplicate their postseason success. Flacco played arguably the best stretch of football in his career, tossing 11 touchdown passes and zero interceptions. The Ravens won as big underdogs against Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, quarterbacks they will have to face again next year.

The 49ers on the other hand, showed in these playoffs that their offense is not fluky and can compete with anyone in the NFL. In fact, it was their defense that collapsed down the stretch. However, if they can shore up their secondary over the offseason, it will give them an even more potent team.

While there may a few more Super Bowl appearances by the Harbaugh brothers in the next decade, Jim and the 49ers have to be considered the favorites to win in 2014.

WWE News: Is the WWE Considering Disbanding the Prime Time Players?

Just last week, the company split up Rhodes-Scholars and now it appears that the Prime Time Players aren't too far behind.

Titus O'Neil has been discussed for a singles push. This would likely mean a major de-push for his current tag team partner Darren Young. Vince McMahon has been high on Titus for some time now.

I understand why the WWE would want to get O'Neil's solo career started as soon as possible. However, I feel that he is currently better served as a member of PTP, simply because the tag division needs to keep some of its momentum. The fact is, the division just lost one of its best teams in Rhodes-Scholars. Couple that with the potential loss of PTP, and you might as well just disband the division and deactivate the titles altogether.

This may sound a bit dramatic, but outside of those two teams, there really isn't much competition for Team Hell No. Ultimately, up until last week, the WWE had been doing a solid job at revitalizing the division. However, now it appears we will never see the company bring the tag division back to its former glory.

Sadly, the WWE has really missed the mark in terms of keeping the tag-team tradition alive. Let's face it, pro-wrestling was built around giving fans different gimmicks to enjoy. Sadly, this is particular gimmick is becoming a lost art, as both WWE and TNA are moving their focus away from tag-team wrestling.

In the end, I am hopeful that the company doesn't break them up right away. Don't get me wrong, I realize the WWE really hasn't given them a title push, but with their biggest threat disbanded, they have nothing standing in their way at getting a shot for the gold.

Multiple competitions can be cruel at any one time, oh how a season can change. Yet, United fans still have two competitions to look on favourably as they saw their team crash out of the Champions League unceremoniously, through a series of uncomfortable and jarring moments. It leaves us realising that being the best doesn't mean that you are the best…that leaves the league wide open for a debate from 2nd to 20th. Harry will be happy.

UNC Basketball: Time for Tar Heels going To Panic Button After Major Reduction to Duke

New York is spinning after having a 69-53 property loss to Duke on Saturday. Being released therefore flat in a casino game with this size was shockinga'especially in Chapel Hill. Considering this was the initial quality opposition UNC had played since its last encounter with Duke, it should be time to stress for Tar Heel fans. Getting outscored 14-0 to start out the match, Roy Williams' squad never might generate any momentum. The Tar Heels shot an abysmal 33.9 % from the area and shot only 1-of-14 from three-point selection. ESPN Stats & Info stated precisely how terrible the problem was for UNCa'particularly in the initial half. New York would have simply vaulted in to the AP Top 25 with a victory over its greatest rival. Now, barring a winning run in the ACC tournament, it is hard to comprehend the Tar Heels being better than a fifth seed in the NCAA tournament. This can be a flawed New York team, and if it does obtain a No. 5 slot in March Madness, it could be a cool 12-over-five pick, which is almost an annual occurrence. Earning against any Round 1 opposition may even prove to be problematic for that matter, since the change that enhanced the Tar Heels therefore much recently completely backfired on Saturday night. After beginning with a 6-5 record against ACC opposition, Williams made a decision to utilize a smaller starting lineup. The effect was a six-game winning streak. Streeter Lecka/Getty Images That worked against some of the ACC's lesser competition, but the astonishing fall against the Blue Devils leaves serious doubts as to whether that framework could hold with college basketball's elite teams. Few doubt the skill the Tar Heels have on offense. James Jordan McAdoo, Reggie Bullock and P.J. Hairston are all effective scorers, and UNC has an extremely balanced attack. But, security is yet another story. That issue surfaced in a large way against Duke, which to be honest, has benefited greatly from the reunite of Ryan Kelly. InsideCarolina.com's Twitter site was on the world to record the problems, which left Williams in distress. Even the ultimate outcome wasn't helped by a seven-minute stretch in the second half in which the Blue Devils failed to knock down a field goal quite definitely. 55.1 percent was still shot by duke from the area, and the 14 turnovers were more owing to its careless setup with a cause compared to Tar Heels really locking down. Williams should find a collection that may match with the nation's best and avoid finding beaten on the boards. As exceedingly risky as this college baseball season has been at the top of the rankings, it is possible that the Tar Heels might modify correctly and create a decent run in the Big Dance. If the chemistry can not be altered as of this late moment in the season, however, the March music will end prematurely for the powerhouse New York plan.

Real Madrid C.F. - Official Web Site - Cristiano Ronaldo is Real ...

Cristiano Ronaldo's progress with Real Madrid is proving spectacular. In his fourth season with the White Squad the Portuguese player is already the club's fourth top goal-scorer in away matches in la Liga. With 60 goals he has tied with Santillana, who's record he might beat this Saturday at La Romareda, and he is only behind Hugo Sanchez (70), Di Stefano (71) and Raul (87).

Cristiano Ronaldo's name is becoming a regular fixture in the list of the club's top goal-scorers. Barely two months ago he beat Gento's record to become the sixth player to have scored most official goals with the Whites (189 in 187 matches). Now he is already the fourth player to have scored most away from home in the championship.

Top-20 richest? Newcastle claim place in world elite with latest money figures - Mirror.co.uk

Wage bill went up by 20 per cent, but the overall news is covered in gravy for the Toon - even after freezing season ticket prices

Manager Alan Pardew is set for more backing in the summer transfer market on the back of a strong performance off the pitch, as well as on it.

The St James' Park club increased their turnover to £93.3million last year (up 5.4%) boosted by bonus money for finishing a surprise fifth in the Premier League.

The club say that puts them in the elite world bracket of top earning football clubs, with a further boost coming with news that they made a profit for the second consecutive year, this time of £1.4 million.

The only down side is a 20% increase in the wage bill to £64.1m after stars including Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba and Pappis Cisse bolstered the squad. That puts the club's wages-to-turnover at 68.7%, an increase of 8.1% on last year, and at the top end of the required range.

The figures, for the financial year ending on June 30, 2012, show the club is making strides towards stability off the pitch.

The average attendance at St James' Park rose to 49,936 - 2,190 up - but ticket revenue fell by 7% after a season ticket price freeze, and cheaper nine and ten year long term deals on offer.

Those initiatives swelled the number of season ticket holders to the highest level since 2007 and this season's average gate will top 50,000.

TV income grew by 14.6%, with that figure set to rise dramatically with next season's television rights deal which guarantees top flight clubs a minimum of £60m a season.

Commercial revenue fell by 12.7%, though the latest figures do not include income from the club's new deal with Wonga. That partnership, which is effective from the 2013/14 season, "represents a significant increase on the club's previous commercial agreements", the club say.

Last year Newcastle made an overall profit of £32.6m, were significantly boosted by the £35m sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool.

Chicago Blackhawks Trade Rumors: Latest Speculation Ahead of NHL Trade Deadline

However, regular-season accomplishments mean little in the overall scheme of things and if the Blackhawks don't win the Stanley Cup—or at least get to the finals—the season will be looked at as a disappointment.

General manager Stan Bowman's job is to help the Blackhawks get better so they will be even tougher to beat in the postseason.

The team is strong and sharp, so the Blackhawks don't have to make a lot of moves. However, there are a couple of moves that Bowman may be considering to fine tune his team and put it in a position to win its second Stanley Cup in four years.

According to the Calgary Sun, Iginla says he would approve of a trade to the Blackhawks, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Since the Penguins acquired Brenden Morrow from the Dallas Stars March 24, they might not be as inclined to make a strong offer to the Flames for Iginla.

The Flames may be able to extract a solid return for Iginla, who will be a free agent at the end of the season. Normally, teams don't like to pay heavily for a rental player, but if the team that ends up with Iginla believes that the move will result in significantly improved Stanley Cup chances, they will be willing to pay for it.

Jay Zawaski of ChicagoNow.com surmised that it could take a first-round pick and two or three top prospects to rent Iginla. He does not believe that Brandon Saad would be in that group, but prospects could include Jimmy Hayes, Mark McNeill and/or Brandon Pirri.

While acquiring Iginla could cost quite a bit, getting a player who can put the puck in the net and carries himself in such a strong and consistent manner could give the Blackhawks the edge they need in the postseason.

As the Washington Capitals continue to make progress in the Eastern Conference, it seems more likely they will hold on to their assets and try to make a playoff push of their own.

However, if general manager George McPhee decides that the Caps are not going to make it or don't have a legitimate chance to make a run, he may want to move Mike Ribeiro, whom he acquired last summer from the Dallas Stars.

Ribeiro will be a free agent at the end of the season and he might be a good fit between Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane. SecondCityHockey.com surmises that the Capitals would not have a high asking price for this rental player and since he is having a good season with 10 goals and 24 assists, he is a player that Bowman would have to consider strongly.

Ribeiro told the Washington Times that he wants a long-term deal if he is going to re-sign with the Caps. He spelled that out as a five-year deal. If McPhee is unwilling to make that commitment, he may be more inclined to trade him prior to the April 3 deadline.

While the Blackhawks want to put themselves in the strongest position to win the Cup, Bowman likes the makeup of his team.

He wants to add to his team to make it stronger, but he told the Chicago Sun-Times that he doesn't want to upset the chemistry of a team with championship potential.

"To get a top guy, you have to wonder what the price would be," Bowman told the Sun-Times. "We're not looking to change the mix we have. We're looking to add to it. We don't want to change the chemistry we've developed.

While it seems likely that Bowman will err on the side of conservatism, he may be considering another bold move. The Blackhawks failed to advance in last year's playoffs because their goaltending let them down.

Goaltenders Corey Crawford and Ray Emery have been among the strongest part of the Blackhawks' game this year (2.10 goals-against average, tied for second with Boston), but playing stellar regular-season hockey is not the same as doing it in the playoffs.

Nike's Tiger Woods ad draws critics

Nike is causing a social media storm with its latest online ad showing a picture of Tiger Woods overlaid with a quote from him, "Winning takes care of everything."

The ad, posted on Facebook and Twitter, is supposed to allude to the fact that the golfer recovered from career stumbles to regain his world No. 1 ranking on Monday, which he lost in October 2010. But some say it's inappropriate in light of Woods' past marital woes. It's the latest controversy from the athletic giant who has recently had to cut ties with biker Lance Armstrong and runner Oscar Pistorius due to separate scandals.

Woods has long used the phrase — at least since 2009 — whenever reporters ask him about his or other golfers' rankings.

The ad has garnered more than 8,000 likes and 2,000 shares on Facebook, as well as hundreds of comments, many congratulating Woods on the ranking, but others commenting that the ad sends the wrong message out in light of Woods' past problems. His 5-year marriage to Elin Nordegren collapsed in 2010 after multiple affairs came to light.

Others responded on Twitter. Annie Kessler, 25, in Columbus, Ohio, tweeted that the ad was a "poor choice" for Nike. She said in an interview that she felt compelled to tweet because even though she understands why Nike would want to promote Woods, the phrase itself is inappropriate because of Woods' past infidelity.

Allen Adamson, managing director of branding firm Landor Associates in New York, said the ad signals that Nike believes it is time Woods — who in addition to his new No. 1 ranking is now in a much-touted relationship with Olympic ski champion Lindsey Vonn — is back in the spotlight.

"They're looking at this and saying, 'Time has passed, he's winning again, it's time to turn up the volume on our association,' " he said. "But it's risky when you associate with a celebrity only based on winning or losing. Consumers care about how you play the game: both the actual game and the game of life."

"The reality is what he said is true," Ries said. "Whether or not they should have said it in an ad is another story."

The ad comes after Nike has had to sever ties with two other high-profile athletes. It dropped Armstrong in October, before Armstrong himself came clean in January, citing insurmountable evidence that he participated in doping and misled the company about those activities for more than a decade. And in February it suspended its contract with Oscar Pistorius, the double amputee runner from South Africa charged with premeditated murder in the Valentine's Day killing of his girlfriend.

Nike never cut ties with Woods when his scandal broke in 2010, and even tried to help resuscitate his image with a black-and-white ad four months later featuring a voice-over by his late father.

City & Chelsea target Cavani uncertain of future - ESPN.co.uk

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani admits he's uncertain where he'll be playing next time and says it's up to the team whether he remains at the San Paolo. Cavani has scored 27 ambitions in 33 games for Walter Mazzarri's area to help them around 2nd in the Serie A table, along with his performances over the past couple of years ultimately causing a lot of attention from Europe's top clubs. Chelsea and Birmingham City have been directly connected with the Uruguayan in recent months, in addition to Real Madrid and Barcelona, and all four groups might have to pay for a substantial amount of money to award him away from the Italian ensemble. Cavani's adviser Gennaro Famigliett also said the other day his passion for the lovers would have been a big element in whether he leaves or not. Cavani told Uruguayan guide El Observador: "Football is a business. In Napoli I am fine as I've the love of the supporters, but in where you play as time goes on football you never know. Much also depends upon the team and the conclusions of the president." Team leader Aurelio De Laurentiis is determined to keep the frontman, but knows when anybody gives his buy-out term, there's little they can do. "Because of the A70 million clause there are maybe two that amount can be spent by teams who and because they are usually the people who decide," De Laurentiis said in Gazzetta dello Sport you have to see if the coaches are exactly the same or can change. "Cavani has always shown great friendship and professionalism and has always been attached with the top of Napoli. It is apparent a boy of 25 may be interested in groups like Barcelona and Real Madrid." Instructor Mazzarri has additionally been related to a away, but De Laurentiis believes even when the 51-year-old and Cavani leave, his club could remain among the best in the team. "We won't disappoint the fans," De Laurentiis said. "If Mazzarri stays and Cavani leaves, then we shall develop a great group. If also Mazzarri were to keep, then we'll still have a great group. I'll not change Mazzarri for anyone, however it depends only on him. Mazzarri may change president, but I will not change Mazzarri for another coach. "I chose him and have now been dealing with him perfectly for quite some time. If he is fed up and really wants to take a break or choose another experience, then that's just his decision."

Newcastle United are back in the black - Journal Live

NEWCASTLE United are back in the black and that has nothing to do with a new third strip, European kit or fancy training gear put out by the club shop.

No, in what is becoming a spring-time tradition, United are set to take the wraps off their latest set of financial figures this week – and The Journal understands the news is good.

Not only have they turned in an operating profit for 2011/12, they have also recorded an overall profit which reverses the trend of losses which reached its nadir two years ago with a £33.5m deficit.

Expect United to quite rightly trumpet their sound financials over the course of the week, which seem to support the Mike Ashley approach the club embarked on following their unseemly relegation in 2009.

Down the road at Sunderland, the trend is similarly upwards (to an extent) – although they have a lot less to shout about.

The club posted £26.9m losses this year, which was £4.3m less than last year but still something that needs to be worked on.

Factor in the way the squad was restructured – players paid off, key men retained on big contracts – and it is more understandable, although chief executive Margaret Byrne pointed out a "structured financial plan" is on its way to sandpaper those losses in the future.

A windfall of £5bn will be filtered into club accounts over the summer thanks to record-breaking TV deals, and The Journal can reveal today it is already being viewed as a potential "game-changer" in the wider football world.

From next year, even the worst club in the Premier League will be guaranteed £60m for simply taking part in English football's elite league. West Ham owner David Gold reckons that could even be as much as £100m a year if certain other ducks fall into the row.

Compare and contrast to the money received in 2011, which was a mere £15m for the bottom club, and you are already getting an idea of why some are already hailing this as the Premier League's golden summer.

Byrne told The Journal last month the cash injection will enable Sunderland to eat into their operating loss while also keeping hold of their best players and investing in the squad.

Expect Derek Llambias to be a bit more circumspect this week but, make no mistake, the signings of Moussa Sissoko and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa were fast-tracked with one eye on the summer bonanza.

United, we can reveal, are set to begin early negotiations with a crop of targets and hope the cash injection enables them to make quicker progress than they did last year.

The same is true of the rest of the league. Look at Norwich City, for example, who have just lavished £8.5m on Sporting Lisbon's Ricky van Wolfswinkel – a potential Dutch international.

Brazil-Russia: Real Madrid midfielder Kaká hopes to be called up again - Sambafoot.com

Real Madrid's midfielder Kaká returned to Brazil's starting lineup against Russia, but he failed to impress, getting subbed off in the second half.

Kaká has not played as often as he would like at club level, but his experience is deemed useful for the national team.

The midfielder has admitted he did not play well, he said after the game: "It wasn't my best game for Brazil, I made mistakes in decisive moments, in the last pass. Unfortunately things don't always happen the way we want".

Kaká is confident he will be called up again though, he said: "That was another step, I know I have to improve more, fix some things, use something of what I have done, form is what matters, it will depend on what I do for my club, Scolari has been following the games".

He did not complain about Brazil's formation, he added: "I feel comfortable, we had freedom to use the space ahead of us, and switch when defending. Unfortunately Russia didn't give us much space".

The Real Madrid player thinks Brazil will win improve, he said: "The win will come naturally, of course the current situation bothers us, as everyone wants to win.The draw against Italy left a bad taste as we were winning. It was different today".

Savic tells Jovetic to join Manchester City - Goal.com

The 22-year-old defender plays with the in-demand forward for Fiorentina and Montenegro and believes he is ready to make the move to a top European club in the near future

Savic thinks Jovetic is good enough to make a move to one of Europe's top clubs and has urged the forward to move to the Etihad Stadium despite his own difficulties in Manchester.

The 22-year-old defender joined City from Partizan Belgrade but lasted only one season before moving to Fiorentina in a swap deal for Matija Nastasic.

"Jovetic can play for one of the top clubs," Savic told the Mail on Sunday. "I hope he does because he is one of my closest friends.

"I would recommend City to him. I think City's a rising team, one of the best clubs in Europe. They will win trophies and be in the Champions League every year.

"It was hard for me there because I came straight from the Serbian league. I won a league title but after a season, I knew I had to play regularly to improve as a player. So I left City - it was my decision.

"It is different for Stevan. He has five years experience, he could play straight away with Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez."

Savic claims that Jovetic's technical quality and determination can be compared to that of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.

"He is a second striker, similar to Rooney because he's good with the ball, gifted technically and intelligent," he added. "Off the pitch he is a quiet guy but on it, he fights."

Manchester United & Liverpool face Serie A opposition for Colombian striker - GiveMeFootball.com

Manchester United and Liverpool must fight off attention from AC Milan if they wish to land transfer goal Jackson Martinez. In accordance with talkSPORT, both Old Trafford and Anfield scouts have already been seeing the Porto star and eyed him as possible addition for their particular attack forces. Today Sir Alex Ferguson and Brendan Rodgers seem like they'll have to combat the Italian leaders for Martinezas signature. Birmingham Unitedas fascination with Martinez probably will rely on the futures of these recent forwards. Ferguson includes a good front line in the form of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez. Hernandez has been related to a move from Old Trafford in the summer and the Porto striker might be regarded as a immediate alternative, should the Mexican leave. Meanwhile, Liverpoolas star guy Luis Suarez is still another person that's been associated with a shift since the Reds look prone to overlook Champions League certification once more. The report states Martinez features a purchase clause of a40million but questions whether some of the teams will be prepared to meet that. However, should each of AC Milan, Manchester United and Liverpool decide they would like to bid for the 26-year-old, the resulting bidding war can force the cost high. Martinez has been a thought because he joined Porto from Mexican area Jaguares, scoring 23 goals in 23 group games.

Dwight Howard Enjoying Through Pain and Critique with the La Lakers

Dwight Howard did not break the La Lakers. He is not the villain; he was just never Superman. Howardas cape was included with a split. Offseason he have been limited by back surgery, and the criticism of the superstar heart has been undeserved in a period full of pain. The gameas elite heart hasnat discussed every thing. aHave you seen the image of that thing that arrived on the scene of his back?a asked Metta World Peace, his Lakersa teammate. aHave you ever seen the picture?a World Peace never rang therefore true, as the character in the Lakersa cast of celebrities came to Howardas protection in an interview with Bleacher Report before the Lakersa most recent discomfort, a Monday evening damage to the Golden State Warriors. Harry How/Getty Photographs aAsk him to exhibit you the picture,a World Peace said. World Peace talked such as a school child who just wanted to discuss some thing disgusting and happened to keep up for a pal in doing this. The chance to start to see the image came following a game, as Howard stood at his locker before the ton of media collapsed beneath him with cameras. aWhat photo? Oh. Yes you can view it,a Howard said. Would you send it to me? He dropped, plainly maybe not wanting to increase the media storm that's gusted into his time with L A. aHere, Iall show it to you though,a he explained after thumbing through some pictures on his iPhone. And there it absolutely was. Horrible. It had been a picture of what appeared to be a pointed little bit of chicken fat, a yellowish-white mass, laid out next to next to a ruler calculating at about five-and-a-half inches. Disgusting. aYeah, which was the part on my nerve they had to draw out,a Howard said. Howardas teammate was right, the bit that came off the disc in his straight back was revolting. aIt was very nasty,a World Peace said. aI donat even know how the hell he played. If he showed the image to you of that thing that arrived on the scene of his back, the general public could get back most of the comments they made about him.a Playing hurt and getting the blame Howard has performed through the pain, the losing and the criticism. His damage might have kept him out until January, yet the preseason was played by him. But a broke Howard never been enougha'not to heal the Lakers or please the franchiseas prince, Kobe Bryant. He just hasnat, injury or no injury, been enough to fix the business (with championship-or-bust expectations) thatas been returned in the next round of the playoffs in each of its last two seasons. Once the Lakersa period was spiraling, Bryantas responses might heave Howard before the dropping Lakersa practice. The NBA world buzzed with headlines of Howard lacking the advantage to force the Lakers forward. The Lakers took the class clown and acted surprised when he didnat thrive in the drama club. Howardas beauty as a star in Orlando often had less to do with his numbersa'as elite while they were for the positiona'and anything to do with his superstar character. He came to Hollywood for a reason. A big change in Howard But some thing in Howard has changed. He was once jovial on to the floor and in front of post-game cameras. After Mondayas damage though, Howard was providing silent, one-word responses to the Lakersa press. He brushed off questions of minor incidents, probably laughing in his mind about how the biggest back the group remains in pain, in the same way itas been all year. Itas odd to see this kind of heaviness weighing down the seemingly always brilliant smile. So for the 10,000th time this season, the problem was presented how he was handling the backlash. aI think lots of people, as opposed to making their particular opinion, go by what other people have said,a Howard said. aI think for the people who know me, who have recognized me for years, they know what form of person I'm and what Iave experienced throughout the years. Iam maybe not going to stop being see your face because of all the pessimism thatas been going on throughout every season. Thereas no need to.a David Nash examines the summer season of Dwight Howard Howard usually embraced the limelight, but itas never been therefore focused with this lens of pessimism. Howard's poor handling of his exile from Orlando was the initial of the negativity, but itas never been added on similar to this before. Playing alongside a forthright Bryant hasnat made it easier. Bryant informed ESPNBoston's Jackie MacMullan in early February that Howard is too focused on image instead of manufacturing. "Dwight worries an excessive amount of about what people think. I told him, 'You can not bother about that. It is holding you straight back.' He says, 'OK, OK, OK,' nonetheless it is definitely hovering around him. He only wants visitors to like him. He doesn't desire to let everyone down, and he is got by that far from what he ought to be doing." Bryant later came around to say the media manufactured the beef between him and Howard. But while words can typically be exaggerated through main-stream, itas obvious that both a-listers take various ideologies. L.A. Everyday News Lakers survey Mark Medina discusses the partnership between Bryant and Howard "Even although they'd some times so far as fighting the bad dynamics and how it is gone about, I do believe both parties have been open to attempt to make the changes to make it work," Mark Medina of the L.A. Bleacher Report was told by daily News. "Whether that is planning to cause a title or not remains to be seen, but as far now they are wanting to put everything behind them to attempt to improve the talent they've on the floor." A step toward success It's more straightforward to co-exist when the group is successful. After losing to a season-worst ten games under.500 (17-25) on Feb. 21, the Lakers had been 10-5 before Monday's reduction. In that stretch, Howard has averaged 16.5 items, 14.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks. Bryant discusses Howard's current play after Monday's loss at Golden State aI feel heas playing phenomenal,a Bryant said after Mondayas reduction by which Howard scored 11 points on 4-of-8 firing. Shock have to figure out a way to get him some more looks down low. And I tried to move back as much as I possibly can and permit that to develop." Championship expectations can be still a mystery whether or the Lakers fulfilled by itas with Howard at center. Fundamentally, Howard will be judged not on his personality, but his power to lift the Lakers back to the success that La has always flaunted. His peculiar teammate, World Peace, may be the guy who pertains to Howard most. aHeas goofy; we realize this. But if he was goofy and completely it would be different,a World Peace said. aHeas only 70 per cent and goofy.a Jimmy Spencer is definitely an Basketball Lead Author for Bleacher Statement. Manchester City: 5 Ways Town Could Challenge for EPL Subject Again Next Time - Bleacher Statement

Given the 12-point distance that separates Manchester United and the present English Premier League winners with only eight group games to get, Manchester City check out lose the title this year with the FA Cup as their only reasonable chance of silverware for the season. From scoring only 51 objectives up to now (in comparison to last seasonas 93) to conceding 26 already (29), many things have gone wrong for Roberto Mancinias part while they enter the ultimate weeks of an underwhelming season. But all should not be dismal at the Etihad Stadium, as this season may and should be utilized as an invaluable lesson for City in their steady but determined rise to the utmost effective of European soccer. Listed below are five methods City can place this season behind them and challenge for top honors once more in 2013-2014. Let Go of Dispensable Participants Julian Finney/Getty Photographs Itas common understanding that Roberto Mancini hasnat been pleased with the work that Samir Nasri has put in in 2010. Heas managed to get clear in public areas (Daily Mail). But looking at the season as a whole, itas not just Nasri who has underperformeda'a whole variety of City players who set the bar high last season have, for various reasons, dropped their levels this period. Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero have already been struggling with damage and poor type, and Yaya Toure was missing due to his responsibilities at the African Cup of Nations, among others. Thatas not to say the aforementioned people should be let go; rather, those people who are dispensable should be managed to move on. Whether this includes the disappointing Nasri, the usurped Joleon Lescott, the simply not-good-enough Kolo Toure or even the supposedly want-away Edin Dzeko (BBC Sport), there is dead wood to be satisfied at City, and this summer must certanly be a chance to improve the group. Hold Hold of Star Players Come Early July Alex Livesey/Getty Photographs For a club that has aspirations to be contained in Europeas footballing elite but still are a fair distance away from a most illustrious tag, City lovers will enjoy the signing of famous participants from proven clubs on the next several years but will also agonize at the chance of losing them to leader clubs. Thereas Yaya Toure, who has been connected with a shift away following his agentas high-profile wage demands (Goal.com). Thereas Sergio Aguero, who has reportedly attracted admiring glances from Barcelona (Express). And thereas Carlos Tevez, who's rumored to go back to former club Boca Juniors (Express). It seems odd a club of Cityas standing may be considered an attempting to sell club. But if they let go of players therefore important to their spine, they'd be well on their way to living up to that name. Area should only hold people like Toure and Aguero, have been big-name coups themselves when they signed and played this crucial part in obtaining the Citizens their first Premier League title. Study on Catastrophic Shift Problems Last Summer Alex Livesey/Getty Images But above all, when it comes to exchanges, the Manchester City hierarchy must study on the opportunity lost. Last summeras transfer failings were outlined by Roberto Mancini in the press as he directed comments towards sporting director Brian Marwood (Daily Mail), however the over all transfer plan was misplaced. Names like Daniele De Rossi (Metro), Daniel Agger (Daily Mail) and Javi Martinez (Daily Mail) were related as big-name signings to increase Mancinias squad, but curiously City settled on the likes of Javi Garcia, Jack Rodwell and Scott Sinclair, none of whom have satisfied in a City clothing. With the exception of the precociously outstanding Matija Nastasic, who has taken Joleon Lescottas area as Cityas starting left-sided center-back, City didn't obtain any top-class players to build on an encouraging title-winning time. By as reigning Premier League champions come july 1st, they'll likely maybe not be taking a look at prospective signings. That means it is a far more essential shift window in the situation of Cityas increase. Produce a Team Identity and Style Shaun Botterill/Getty Images Whether it's Manchester Unitedas popular winning attitude, Chelseaas questionable aprofessionala victories or Arsenalas eye-catching, swashbuckling fashion, there's some thing about concept winners that separate them from the remainder. Last season, City boasted impressive scoring figures and an excellent defensive report. But in Mancinias time at the Etihad, there's been a noticeable lack of design and group identity amongst the City ranks. Too usually, it feels like suits are won due to individual performance in place of exemplary group play. It's at the very least some components regarding the squad. An often-reminisced tactical change that Mancini can depend on was the forcing up of Yaya Toure after Nigel De Jong was summoned from the seat. No more. This year, with Aguero off type and injured, City have viewed toothless and also too estimated at times. David Silvaas kind has substantially dropped off. Obviously, time is taken by it to develop such an personality, but with the financial support he enjoys and the talents at his disposal, Mancini must certainly have enough resources to truly produce a aManchester Citya model. Change the Manager? Jordan Regan/Getty Photos Or not. Is time up for Roberto Mancini? First, some much-needed recognition for the existing director amidst a inclination to criticize him for his public outbursts: Since the City reins were taken up by him from Mark Hughes, City have ascended to a complete new level. Whether it's in terms of players earned or trophies won, it's clear that City have grown from bold players to at least one of the big boys. But is this the highest Mancini may have taken this City team? For all of his pedigree, Mancini hasn't experienced continual success in Europe, as the failure to genuinely develop a City identification has become apparent. Thereas a reason supervisors like Manuel Pellegrini, who spent some time working wonders with such unfancied groups as Villarreal and today Malaga, are increasingly being connected with the Town career (ESPN). Possibly, Pellegrinias record in both domestic and European competition and in building groups with an extraordinary work ethic and a nice-looking playing style makes him an exciting choice for a club that wants to become good. A apparently sensible and supportive City hierarchy have established the leniency and persistence that's required to create a footballing empire. Now, they've to determine come early july whether Mancini is the greatest person to helm the vessel. Heat win 27th straight, run away from Magic 108-94

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — LeBron James left one rebound shy of a triple-double, feigning a bit of frustration as he checked out of the game.

James finished with 24 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, and the Heat won their 27th straight game by running away in the final minutes to beat the Orlando Magic 108-94 on Monday night.

Mario Chalmers scored 17, and Chris Bosh and Ray Allen each added 12 for Miami, which broke open a tie game with a 13-0 run spanning the end of the third and start of the fourth quarters. Miami eventually pushed the lead to 20 before Heat coach Erik Spoelstra emptied the bench in what became his 250th win with the team.

The Heat now are within six games of matching the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers for the longest winning streak in NBA history.

A 20-2 run over 4½ minutes spanning the third and fourth quarters was all it took for Miami to take control for good, and beat the Magic for the third time in three meetings this season — after surviving a pair of earlier nail-biters.

It's now the second-longest winning streak in American major sports, behind only the Lakers' run. Baseball's New York Giants won 26 straight games in 1916, the New England Patriots took 21 consecutive NFL games in 2003 and 2004, and the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins won 17 consecutive times in 1993.

This one, like so many others lately, hardly came easily, with Miami not putting the game away until the second half.

Wade missed his second straight contest with a sore right knee, one that he said before the game had been bothering him periodically since March 9 and then flared up after a collision against Boston last week. He had an MRI exam over the weekend to rule out any major problems and will be listed as day-to-day before the game in Chicago on Wednesday.

Vucevic sat his third straight game while dealing with a mild concussion. Vucevic averaged a staggering 22.5 points and 25 rebounds in two games against Miami earlier this season. Compounding the injury issues for Orlando was losing power forward Andrew Nicholson, the team's first player off the bench Monday, to a sprained left ankle just 1:52 after he checked in for what was the only time.

A 9-2 run early in the third gave Miami what was then its biggest lead, 64-53. Instead of deflating the Magic, it seemed to almost inspire the hosts, who answered with probably their best 5-minute stretch of the game, capped by a 3-pointer by Nelson with 3 minutes left that tied the game at 68-all.

And when James missed a layup at the other end, then got called for a foul after the rebound, Orlando may very well have been thinking that the streak could soon be snapped.

Miami needed only 2 minutes to close the quarter with 10 unanswered points, with James doing either the orchestrating or performing. He got loose on a curl for a dunk to start the run, and the Heat took off.

Chris Andersen — the Heat are now 29-1 when he plays — got Miami the ball with a spectacular block against Maurice Harkless. James then cleared everyone out to drive on Harkless, score and get fouled for a three-point play.

Harkless threw the ball into the sideline seats on Orlando's next possession, and James found Allen for a 3-pointer. Harkless had another turnover with 19.5 seconds left and then fouled James with 4.2 ticks remaining. James missed both shots, but got his own rebound, was fouled by Harris and made those two ensuing free throws for a 78-68 Miami lead.

The run didn't stop there. Allen started the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer, pushing Miami's edge to 81-68 as Orlando's Beno Udrih — who was 0 for 8 from the field at that point — lay writhing in pain under the basket after apparently being hit in the face.

Norris Cole lobbed one off the glass to James for a dunk and an 83-70 lead, Allen made another 3-pointer on the next possession, James set up Andersen for an alley-oop dunk as half the arena roared in delight as the reigning champions pushed the margin to 18.

NOTES: There was practically a baseball All-Star team in attendance, with Ken Griffey Jr., Detroit slugger Prince Fielder and Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia all near one another opposite the Miami bench. Tigers stars Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera were also in the crowd, as was Masters champion Bubba Watson. ... Orlando comes to Miami on April 17 in the regular-season finale for both teams.

TRUE MADRID AND BARCELONA TARGET CITY STAR SERGIO AGUERO - Everyday Star

ABOVE: Sergio Aguero is Manchester City's report signing but is thought to be unhappy in Manchester Perez is also attempting to signal Gareth Bale from Spurs and has taken charge of all of the clubas transfer negotiations. 26th March 2013 By John Brown REAL MADRID yesterday upped the stakes inside their A45m bid to land Sergio Aguero from Manchester City. Starsport unmasked a week ago how City face a losing battle to keep hold of star striker Aguero in the face of strong curiosity from the Spanish leaders. Aguero is now disillusioned with life in Manchester following the break-up of his marriage. The race has been also entered by barcelona to signal the Argentina striker. That has spooked Real a' who have decided to offer City their selection of both Karim Benzema or Gonzalo Higuain as a sweetener. True leader Florentino Perez knows he can lose Cristiano Ronaldo come early july and wants an important transfer to help him re-elected get year. Perez is also trying to sign Gareth Bale from Spurs and has taken charge of all the clubas exchange negotiations. Real missed from Aguero when he joined City for A38m since Atletico Madrid refused to market with their opponents. But they have maintained their interest and a return to Madrid with Real might appeal to Aguero, who would be closer to his son Ben. Barcelonaas priority is always to keep hold of a David Villa, who has been offered a brand new package. Aguero is really a fall-back option.

Spurs legend: Liverpool and Fulham losses mean I'm worried Arsenal will catch us - London24

Former Tottenham favourite Darren Anderton fears that Andre Villas-Boas may see his side's season fall away after their defeats to Liverpool, Inter Milan and Fulham last week.

The Lilywhites are four points clear of Arsenal, who have a game in hand and there are fears that Spurs could blow another lead over Arsene Wenger's side.

Anderton told talkSPORT: "It all started in the Liverpool game where they played well and were 2-1 up and then a couple of silly mistakes and they end up losing the game. They went to Milan and I thought they were really poor, scraped through and then against Fulham they just looked like they'd, basically, lost their confidence.

"They need to get back to winning ways and try and nick a win somewhere otherwise it's going to be a repeat of last year where, in the last ten games of the season, they went downhill in a big way.

"I think the biggest problem is that it's habit. The other teams have been there and done it. They finish the season well, normally, and the only thing Spurs have to fall back on is that last year they finished poorly and when you get a bad week, like last week, people remind them of it and that will creep into the players' minds.

Miami compared to. Illinois: Game Time, TELEVISION Routine, Spread Data and Forecasts

On Sunday, one of many more stimulating round of 32 issues will pit the racing Miami Hurricanes against an unexpected Illinois staff that has hung with the nation's most readily useful all year long. The No. 7 Fighting Illini have a number of outstanding benefits under their belts, as top-25 teams have been taken down four by them, including Gonzaga, Indiana and Ohio State. So inspite of the 23-12 record, Illinois can play with anybody on any given day. At another end of the court, No. 2 Miami has been among the nation's most useful, so after recording the school's first ACC contest concept last week, followed closely by a remarkable round of 64 conquer Pacific, the Hurricanes are getting momentum with each game. Needless to say, this group is going to be hard to avoid. Lead by Shane Larkin, Durand Scott and Kenny Kadji, the Hurricanes' balanced offense has been receiving more and more effective down the stretch, which is why this team was able to fall 87 on UNC in the ACC title game last week. Illinois has a few offensive standouts as well, and leading scorer Brandon Paul has come up massive against the nation's best this year, as he put up 35 in a over Gonzaga and 21 in the win over Indiana. Planning into this round of 32 showdown, here is all of the information you'll need to learn to stay tuned. Game Information Where:AFrank Erwin Center; Austin, TX. A cabin in the Sweet 16 could all but make up for those bad outings. On the other hand, Miami's return to the competition has been the culmination of a remarkably successful year for a program that had been buried in the ACC behind the evergreen powers from Durham and Chapel Hill. But now that the Hurricanes have gained an ACC concept and made it this far, it would be a bitter end to the season for a group that has enough expertise to make the program's first Final Four appearance this March. Players To View Miami: G Shane Larkin Stephen Dunn/Getty Pictures In the Hurricanes' round of 64 tilt with Pacific, Shane Larkin, the team's unquestioned unpleasant motor, was held to just 10 points, and Miami had to are based upon Durand Scott's 21 points to put the overall game out of reach. Yes, Larkin had seven helps, and he was a monster in the ACC title game, but heading 2-of-8 from the field will not reduce it beyond the opening round. If Miami will make a deep work, equally Larkin and Kadji have to start getting more details on the table. Illinois: G Brandon Henry Like Larkin, Brandon Paul has the keys to his team's offensiveAattack, and has been a solid scorer all period, calculating more than 16 points a game for a healthy Illinois offense. But Paul also struggled in his round of 64 game, as he shot only 3-of-12 from the field, and the Fighting Illini could have been sent packing, or even for his near-perfect free-throw shooting. Stephen Dunn/Getty Photographs Forecast For Miami, the key needs to be getting ahead early, and which consists of athletic benefit over Illinois to guard the lead. The Hurricanes will manage to put enough points on the table, and assuming Illinois' firing does not improve significantly on Sunday, that one won't be all that close. Ohio 77, Illinois 61

Newcastle United's Yohan Cabaye feels club and place tensions started... - Scottish Daily Record

THE FRENCHMAN has said that a rigorous year of country and club responsibilities left him drained and battling with the sickness. Mark Moir/Reuters NEWCASTLE United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has unveiled how he overcame a battle with depression brought on by the rigorous routine he adopted, playing for both club and country, a year ago. The Frenchman claimed he was "reassured" by reading books by Jonny Wilkinson and Rafael Nadal, who had both been through similar experiences. Cabaye joined the Magpies in 2011 and ended his impressive first season by joining up along with his national group for Euro 2012, but its toll was taken by the non-stop season. Cabaye stated that just a groin harm which sidelined him for much of the current campaign gave him time to recuperate and get over his illness. Cabaye told L'Equipe: "Depression? I am maybe not afraid to say that. It absolutely was that. "But I was reassured by reading the books of Jonny Wilkinson and Rafael Nadal, who both mentioned a similar thing. They talked about post-competition depression and the requirement to have some slack. "I started with Newcastle in June 2012 and for the very first-time, used to do not have any winter break so then to resume in July 2012, it was very hard. "Maybe it is difficult to begin again after a large competition such as the Euros, but my body didn't allow me to do what I wanted to do." Cabaye explained how his groin damage and resulting surgery allowed him to spend some time with friends and go home to Lille. It had been that late time far from the overall game that helped nurse him back to full health. Cabaye added: "Physically I feel completely fine now and I am willing to fight for the membership. "I wnt to offer twice as much to truly save the team from the drop. I want to persuade the fans that they can trust in me and the Newcastle colours can be defended by me. "Now that event is over, I've far more fun likely to daily training sessions. I appreciate how lucky I am."

Sweet 16 2013: Cinderella Teams Who Won't Reach Next Round of March Madness

The field at the 2013 NCAA tournament has already been whittled down from 64 to 16, with that number to be halved again later on this week.

And whilst there's been many big talking points out of that culling process, there has been no bigger topic than the runs of certain Cinderella teams this year. You know, the smaller teams (Cinderella) who have somehow managed to get themselves to the ball (Sweet 16).

Teams like Wichita State, La Salle and Florida Gulf Coast University—none of them were expected to make it this far in the tournament, and yet here they are. They've all achieved phenomenal upsets to still be alive in the tournament, but they will also face big tests to stay alive.

Can they continue their incredible winning streak or will the clock strike midnight on their NCAA tournament dreams in the Sweet 16? Read on to see which Cinderella teams won't make it through to the next round of March Madness for 2013.

No greater upset team exists in the tournament this year than that of FGCU, who became the tournament's first-ever No. 15 seed to make it through to the Sweet 16.

Having stunned Georgetown in their opening game, the Eagles then repeated the process on San Diego State in the third round. Andy Enfield's men pulled away late in that one to record a 10-point victory again, setting up a Sweet 16 matchup with the region's No. 3 seed, Florida.

Florida is a very strong team this year and has produced stunning results to back that up. According to statistics guru Ken Pomeroy, the Gators are the best overall team in the country, with the third-ranked effective defense and the third-ranked effective offense.

As nice as the Cinderella story is, there's just no way that FGCU is capable of shutting down a multi-faceted attack like Florida's. The Gators are simply too strong right across the court and can still win games with their defense should their offense find itself in trouble.

FGCU will come into this one on a huge high, and rightly so. It has achieved incredible things at the tournament this year and deserves great praise, but unfortunately, it will come to an end here.

If your hands are up, then stop cheating, for there's simply no way that anybody could have predicted this matchup occurring so late in the tournament.

The No. 9 and 13 seeds have both achieved incredible runs to get this far in March Madness, and one of them will see that run continue through to the Elite Eight.

However, in doing so, they'll bring to an end the story of their Cinderella opponent, and in this one, it's Wichita State who'll be sent packing.

The Shockers have been exactly that through the tournament so far, with their defeat of the No. 1 seed Gonzaga one of the more incredible tournament upsets. However, against a streaking Explorers team, they may just sputter and suffer a shock defeat as a result.

La Salle has earned very close wins over Kansas State and Mississippi, both of whom came into the tournament as very strong teams.

They did not have the doubts surrounding them like Gonzaga did, and whilst they didn't carry the high seeding that the Bulldogs did, the reality is that both of these teams were very strong opponents.

And yet the Explorers triumphed with clutch play down the stretch in both, which could again prove to be the difference for La Salle in this one.

Gonzaga struggled down the stretch against Wichita State, and it wasn't even tested against Pittsburgh. The Shockers haven't had the same type of close games that La Salle has had thus far, and in what would be another big upset, I think they might just go down as a result.

Which Barcelona and Real Madrid People Might Begin at Bayern Munich? - Bleacher Report

Bayern Munich leader Uli Hoeness ruffled some feathers a week ago when he placed his team's individual people roughly on par with these from Real Madrid and Barcelona. Hoeness' prices have been considerably edited in most English sources, a lot of which have implied that he would not take Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo at Bayern. When asked which players from Barcelona and Real Madrid he felt would be welcome changes to the Bayern group, he singled out Andres Iniesta and Jordi Alba.AHoeness added: "I think there are just one or two Barca and Real players who'd begin for Bayern - [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi excluded." Surprisingly, the bit on Messi and Ronaldo has been omitted from many English-language media sources. It is generally within the German media. It must also be outlined that Hoeness commented which players he'd welcome to Bayern that would fit into the staff, maybe not who is "better" or "worse" than players in the German giants' team. To distinguish the difference, consider Xavi. He may be better than some of Bayern's midfielders right now, but at 33 years old, he'll only declineAbetween now and his looming retirement. His value is overridden by age as a temporary improvement: his steady decline and approaching retirement makes as a move selection for leading groups like Bayern him ugly. This would explain Hoeness' preference for Iniesta, a younger person of equally exceptional class. Having set the record straight about what Hoeness did and didn't say, his prices stay very interesting and are worth scrutiny. Are Alba and Iniesta the sole two people from Barcelona or Real Madrid who'd be considered a distinct step-up for Bayern? And would they themselves indeed be noted improvements? Neuer: Not a step down from Casillas or ValdesManuel Queimadelos Alonso/Getty Images Beginning with the goalkeeper place, neither Victor Valdes nor Iker Casillas is a significant improvement upon Manuel Neuer. Both inside their 30s, the Spanish corks are approaching the normal physical decline. And though Casillas is world-class, therefore is Neuer. The argument as to which can be the higher goalkeeper is irrelevant: The simple the reality is that both are great and there could be no basis for Bayern to risk getting Casillas to a tradition and new group. At right-back, Bayern have their leader and a world-class skill in Philipp Lahm. Alvaro Arbeloa is the smallest person in the True Madrid beginning lineup, and will be ideal to Bayern only as a backup. Dani Alves is half the ball player he was in 2009; he is adopted in the actions of compatriots Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka in beginning his decline prematurely. In central safety, Bayern's best pair consists of Dante and Holger Badstuber, with Jerome Boateng on the bench. Barca's most useful are Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique; Javier Mascherano is just a homeless holding midfielder. True Madrid have Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Raphael Varane. Puyol, because of his turning 35 next month, is is often injured and nearing the conclusion of an illustrious career. He will be sorely missed at Barca when he retires, but can do little for another leading team. As Pepe has established time and time again in big games for team and country, his lack of baseball skills make him an undesirable choice against important teamsa'the very form Bayern play on a normal basis in the Bundesliga. Peek and Ramos, along side Pepe, all are extremely vunerable to being orange carded. While the loves of Thiago Silva and Mats Hummelsa'truly great defendersa'will only be scheduled once or twice in a period, they average around the exact same amount of dismissals. Pique has been yellow carded 73 occasions and been dismissed on eight occasions in 315 looks in his career. Ramos' bookings tally at a staggering 152 yellow and 16 red cards in 456 career excursions. Dante (56 yellows, five reds in 252 appearances) and Badstuber (44 yellows and two reds in 279 appearances) play more precisely and have run in a few of the best defenses in Bundesliga history (Bayern have conceded only 36 targets since the beginning of the 2011-12 year). Again, there's little of an improvementa'if anya'by putting Pique and/or Ramos, so there will be no point in risking getting sometimes to a new category and culture. Varane is a different story. Bayern wanted to sign him from Lens in 2011, and he is the type of player that Breno was said to be. Still per month away from his 20th birthday, Varane has performed remarkably against Barcelona, and Real Madrid's record of goals admitted with him and an Ricardo Carvalho in protection is considerably better than with Ramos and Pepe. Hoeness made an error in maybe not singling out Varane as a person who would be considered a great signing for Bayern. Varane: The one who got awayJasper Juinen/Getty Images Seeking to the left-backs, Bayern have a treasure in David Alaba. You can argue whether he, Jordi Alba, Fabio Coentrao or Marcelo is the better, but there is no denying that the Austriana'who still is just two decades olda'has probably the most room for development set alongside the others, who're all 24 or older. Alaba put on virtuoso exhibits for Bayern in the Champions League against Real Madrid last year and is fast becoming among the world's best left-backs. Really, he is equally skilled in attack and defense. In this regard, Hoeness is dead wrong: Bayern don't have any requirement for Jordi Alba. In central midfield, Bayern's best are Bastian Schweinsteiger, Javi Martinez and Toni Kroos. Barca have Xavi, whose years as mentioned make him an unhealthy choice, along with Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta. Real have Xabi Alonsoa'who at 31 can also be reduced being an needless playera'as well as Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil. Schweinsteiger, Bayern's vice-captain, is a lock. He's amazingly flexible and he takes his membership to another stage, though sometimes inconsistent. While the latter is more established on a top level Martinez is comparable however you like and attributes to Busquets;, the former is not far behind in terms of his ability to do the straightforward things. Similarly, Khedira could be at a higher level than Martinez, but the qualities he offers aren't exactly the most essential features where you can create a group. For all his numerous quality, Toni Kroos is a stage behind Mesut Ozil and Andres Iniesta. Hoeness was definitely to select Iniesta as a new player who might enhance Bayern greatly. The midfielder is very flexible and excessively reliable in big games. And as his 29th birthday techniques, he still includes a few years before his decline begins. The only real drawback to establishing Iniesta into the Bayern staff is that it'd require a creation move from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3. Both Ozil and Iniesta would dramatically increase the Bayern team.Denis Doyle/Getty Images Mesut Ozil wouldn't require this kind of change; he could perform as the main playmaker in Bayern's present 4-2-3-1 startup. And he would most definitely be an improvement over Kroos. The ex-Bremen man's skill would go to waste at Real Madrid, where he plays second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo. When he runs out for Germany, Ozil is the heart of all approaching playa'and there, he seems like the best playmaker on the planet. He had have a similar function at Bayern, and could be anticipated to produce on a similar amount. On the wings, Bayern have Franck Ribery and Thomas MAller. Hoeness' assessment omitted Cristiano Ronaldo, so Real Madrid's contrast is Angel di Maria. Barcelona have Pedro Rodriguez and Alexis Sanchez or an out-of-position Mark Property or Cesc Fabregas. Despite being younger than both,AMAller has scored more goals and provided more helps than PedroAand Alexis in domestic group play, and has led to more goals in the Champions League. The German obtained in the Champions League final and was prime scorer at the 2010 World Cup. He's precisely the type of player an instructor ought not to consider replacing. Ribery is a target unit for Bayern since going to Munich in 2007, but he's certainly running in short supply of time, as he approaches his 30th birthday. Property isn't any older and will be an ill-suited alternative, while Fabregas isn't undoubtedly a winger of course. Di Maria could very well be the best option substitute, but his individualism would make him an unhealthy fit at Bayern. He would probably perform only as backup to Ribery and Muller at Bayern, who would be better to look elsewhere for an upgraded for the Frenchman as he grows older. Ribery will eventually need to be replaced, but there are options more skilled than Di Maria.Gonzalo Arroyo Moreno/Getty Images The last situation is that of center forward, where Barcelona have just Messi, who was excluded from Hoeness' investigation. True Madrid have Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain, while Bayern have Mario Gomez and Mario Mandzukic. While Benzema is a superb striker with the ability to report some stunning targets, his attack price is quite low for a striker on as Real Madrid this type of gifted team. Confidence doesn't be exactly inspired by a record of eight goals in 22 appearances in La Liga this season, and since going to Spain he's won a great but modest 52 occasions in 116 games. Higuain has found the target 102 times in 181 Primera fits. Gomez includes a better strike price (134 objectives in 231 games) in domestic play, and won 20 times in the Champions League in the two decades preceding an injury-blighted 2012-13. The ex-Stuttgart person could have his errors, but neither Benzema or Higuain did enough as an important step to prove himself up. To conclude, Hoeness has a valid point because Barcelona and Real Madrid's participants aren't just a step up from those in Bayern's group, but his personal tests are questionable. Jordi Alba would be an luxury for Bayern, who'd greatly benefit not only from the addition of Iniesta, but from the signings of Mesut Ozil and (albeit to a much lesser degree) Angel di Maria. Regardless, Hoeness' speculations originated from the land of fantasy; Bayern may sign neither Alba or Iniesta. But his bold claims may soon be put to the test in the Champions League: If Bayern are to maintain Europe's most coveted prize, they may face both Real Madrid and Barcelona along the way.
